Walcott doesn't seem to me to be as fast as he was at Arsenal. He's rarely taking the ball past his man. I think his place in the team is vulnerable.
He hasn't done that in about five years, if not more.
It's not his game anymore.
Just like how Lookman's game isn't to sprint in behind like Walcott does.
What is Walcott's game?
He has a good right foot shot.
He has pace - but not nearly as much as people are making out. Fitness maintained, speed on the wane.
What isn't his game? - Defence, holding onto the ball, beating his man, creating
Overall his contribution is not up to what's needed.
He very rarely adds to the team play, relying on everyone else so he can play his game.
And even though he is putting in more effort as the season goes on, he hasn't got the skills or awareness to defend up and down the wing.
If teams sit back or he comes up against a good LB, LCM, he offers very little.
Its frustrating that he hasn't done enough with all the space that has been created for him by the Digne, Rico, Bernard.
More frustrating that if we had winger who was able to hold onto the ball and create, the left wing would have a lot more chances as well.
With Gomes now in, you'll see more passes into space for him to run onto, so more shot on goal, more crosses.
So far, 2 goals, 2 assists from 9 PLs. That should increase.
But imo it doesn't make up for what he doesn't give the team.
Simply put, other players would have more goals and more assists if he had a more rounded game.
One more example would be the lack of ability to use Kenny/Coleman to put them into space; let alone the covering role he puts himself in by doing this.
There's a jong lad, Arnaut Dajuma Groeneveld coming through the ranks. 21yrs old. Played in Eredivisie, now at Club Brugge.
Just made his debut for Oranje vs Belgium and scored.
Recently scored a cracker against Atletico Madrid.
He'd burn Walcott for pace and no comparison on the ball.
Valued at 4m on Transfermarket.
The type of signings where poster boys playing at elite level, use the Blues as a stepping stone to stay in elite competition before taking the cash in the MLS, shouldn't happen. As an agreed back up yes.
Would much rather see Lookman and the likes of Dajuma fight it out for a place.
Or maybe one has got the position and a Walcott type as back up, coming on like he did in the League game against the Saints.
That’s to our benefit.bit strange he can't get in the England squad.
That’s to our benefit.
I like the lad

he has pace, people always say pace is massive in this league, because of this he is a constant threat even when not playing well, he keeps defenders occupied. He can score his fair share too but does miss a fair few. I like him, definitely has something to offer us going forward and it's a bit strange he can't get in the England squad.
I think that's purely an age thing, mate.
Southgate is set on having a young squad and fair play to him for that.
Haven't had a bong for about 20yrs.Have another bong you flamin' Galah
