TBF I think its hard to condemn any of last seasons buys* given how shocking the management of the club was then; just look at the difference between this seasons Sigurdsson and last seasons, or this season's Keane and last seasons. Some of them will probably never do it (Sandro for example) but the were not bad players**.

Lot of big spending from big clubs that hasn't got much production. For their prices Allison and Kepa have really been nothing special. Fred is atrocious and Keita and Fabinho haven't been much better for the RS. Takes some doing to come in at those prices and not instantly be better than a Wijnaldum, Milner, Henderson trio. I get the feeling that Southampton have had some stinkers but I don't really watch them play. Overall worst I'll go with that Ghezzal who we thankfully swerved. I've yet to see him beat a fullback or do anything useful.

Fabinho is bang average. Like a lanky Fernandinho with no control of his legs below the knee. Says it all when they have downgraded from Henderson imo just because he has a fancy name and did well in a pub league.

Did they actually sign any defenders though, I get they signed some “useful” attackers but their defence is very very Championship.

They tried to. I think they signed at least a couple CBs and a full back or two. They're all not good apparently.
