I’m probably of the same opinion to be honest but I just hate the fact that the country is basically a skip fire and the pm feels the need to comment on this kind of stuff . I also get a little frustrated when everything is lumped together , there are certainly phrases or comments in various tv shows that feel wholly inappropriate now and I can understand why companies aren’t keen on showing it or at the very least issuing a warning but this has now become the equivalent of book burning .

It feels like apart from small boats The whole culture war debacle is all they’ve got so they constantly try and make it feel like it’s relevant. All a bit tiresome .

They`ve been doing re re runs of the Kenny Everett show on one of the free channels and there`s a warning before each episode, stating something like, " this humour was acceptable at the time " lol

He`d have never been allowed on telly now.

i swear bits have been cut out films for TV for years, to make it be able to show at certain times. Not just kids films too, even films so they can be shown at 2pm on a Sunday, or something

Tbh, I'm not too big on old pieces of art or literature being altered. I think it's okay for works to speak to their time. In Roald Dahl's case this seems to have been a business decision to either have a more modern appeal or to simply attract attention to Roald Dahl books through the inevitable "cancel culture" media conversation that they knew would ensue. It's all so tedious
I disagree, its not a university student reading Hemmingway and being able to discern his misogyny his of its time and doesn't devalue his work, its 5-8 olds building their own language structure and interaction cues. The family have signed off and the beauty of Dahls creations don't suffer because of it in my opinion. Its fine. Its hardly Maus being literally banned from schools in the states which was a crime that got a fraction of the press.

People get more irate about this than real problems like say companies polluting our water. It‘a a disgrace that politicians even entertain the ideas of ‘woke’ and ‘cancel culture’ Makes no difference to the lives of anyone.

I need to emphasise that I don't care at the end of the day. If pushed for an opinion in most cases, I'd prefer if old art, film, books etc. were left alone but, as you rightfully point out, there are different factors to consider depending on what you're reading. In my mind, it's barely worth a conversation, let alone the foaming rage that it seems to illicit in some people

Roal Dahl books to be edited to be less offensive.

'Fat' changed to 'enormous'

Oompa-Loompas now described as 'small people' instead of 'small men'

Amongst many other changes.

Soooo, on the back of this is, all the angry, anti-woke brigade getting even angrier at the woke for making these changes BUT it was not anything to do with the woke, the woke did not make these changes,. it was a business decision to cover their arses.

The absolute fume in the comments of the Mail, Piers Morgan etc, these people have lost it, and, they are just getting angrier and angrier - it is not healthy.

Good, lets find a statue to cover up now quick, make the lack of ambulances pay....

They could have just said "humour was acceptable at the time". You can't laugh at anything or anyone these days.
