But you're wrong Brownie. He did 'realise he was never gonna get out and try to make the best of it', thats exactly what he does right up until he turns his back on String. He was one of their best workers, ran the towers and then got the pit churning into a machine. The fact is though he always had the internal battle with his conscience, and he was grappling with the idea that everything he had been brought up to believe in was wrong. It takes an awful lot to just shut that off, and it did, which is why the 'Where's Wallace?' scene is incredibly powerful, and more than enough to disprove your 'he didn't try hell for leather to get out of the game'. That was a pretty ballsy scene.

The great tragedy is that just as his conscience is about to win over, his mother comes back and reinforces all his old doubts, all his beliefs about 'family' and 'the game' that he knew were wrong, but coming from the person who he loves more than anything in the world it changes his mind. Not knowing she was playing him. It's pretty harsh to call that weakness, I doubt many in his situation would've been able to tell his mother to do one.

this has turned into an english lit lesson, tearing apart every scene, every line to say what context everything is done or said in.

ffs enjoy the good old cops and baddies plot and dancing girls that you would kiss.

now I've watched them all there is a void.

Law and Order just came on, doesn't even come close and cant hold my attention, I just heard them say "senator" and it's just not the same when the senator doesn't say "sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit "

This thread is also sensational, have a read back. I think this is one of the few things we've actually argued about properly. Apart from MikelsGoat obviously, but he tried.

Did everyone that enjoyed The Wire watch Generation Kill too?

Only 7 episodes or something, but of a similar standard (same writer) and excellent stuff.

The same guy (David Simon) also made a pre-Wire mini-series called The Corner which touched on similar themes - and it was forever interesting to see Freamon as a smackhead.

I'm looking for all the Homicide : Life on the Street DVDs now. David Simon wrote those and apparently re-used a lot of the characters in The Wire.

His new thing "Treme" is out soon, set in a post-Katrina New Orleans. It has Simon's stamp of guaranteed quality on it. Can't wait.

Goat took an almighty spanking for revealing his really [Poor language removed] character perception, and being fat.

I never read this thread after chico said "omar dies".

I didn't realise McNulty was an eton boy from sheffield though, Stringer is also English and was on j.ross the other week.

You almost went for me here, look at it, you tried to do your 'get to **** you little man' thing until you realised I could handle you.

I noticed that you have strong forearms, it's obvious you are packing moves.

I could still do a takedown but it's effort, I'd rather flow for the time being before you overstep the mark and BOOM you're gone, ended, disgraced.

But were cool at the moment.

yeah string' is played by Idris Ebra i think. he was in Rock'n'Rolla as well.

Dominic West who plays McNulty is on the introduction to Eminems new album 'Relapse'.

The Wire is quality. You gotta watch all 5 seasons. As dumb as it sounds, i watched all 5 with subtitles so i wouldn't miss a thing. ahaha.

best bit is where Omar testifies in court....classic...."no civilians"..

dunno what BBC were playing at sticking it on after question time at 11.20 at night????
