What happens if they fail their third and final attempt at landing ? They have to divert to the secondary/alternate airport on their flight plan ?

It’s like a nice spring day here in Lytham St Anne’s . Obviously , there will be gales blowing at home time . Me and my bike will either end up back home in Blackpool , or Southport . Depending on the wind direction

Many airlines have procedures that prohibit a 4th attempt at a landing, to stop them using all of the fuel reserves to the point that a diversion to a safe destination cannot be made. The flight plan will have at least one alternate airport for them to divert to. The pilots will look at the alternate options on the day before the flight, and make sure that the alternates have suitable conditions (today, an into forecast wind runway). If they need to have the alternates changed on the flightplan they can do.
