49 states dusted with snow; Hawaii's the holdout - Yahoo! News

49 states in the US had snow on the ground today. The only holdout was Hawaii. Wow.

Global warming.............:dodgy:

Go read up what a normal or gaussian distribution is.

All averages have maximum and minimum.

If it were 20ft of snow in all 49 states, then that would be unusual.

This is just a 1/100 year event.

Under a climate change scenario (warming), this would become 1/200 year event.

The distribution shifts - upward.

That is all, i.e. the % of events like that declines.

Weather and climate are not the same.

For crying out loud man!

I know plenty about weather patterns, I just felt like taking an easy swipe at the political agenda that is global warming.

Take the threads in the ale-house with a pinch of salt. rarely do I want to get into a big long technical discussion where I post references to back up my claims. I just thought it was cool that 49 out of 50 states had snow.

Its not a political agenda. Its a anthroprogenic phenomenon that requires a political response.

there is a difference.

Look, I am not getting into anything right now.

You want a serious thread to talk about global warming, please start one.

This one is reserved for the gee, golly, gosh, will you look at that, snow all the way across the US mainland.

You're more than welcome to push some white stuff this way, as it's all thawed out now, save the most rural and out of town areas, where there were some drifts the other night, I'm a little old perhaps to get over excited about it all, but regardless of age you can't help but feel some euphoria when it' comes down and it does get your shoes clean.

Wednesday night was the pinnacle were we went, a blizzard swept in and it went like as cold as Siberia for a time and you couldn't see the distance at all, and then soon after it was clear and then next day the thaw began, and I'm a liitle sad to see it go actually.

Bit jealous of those back home, even if it is on a grander scale and it does provide difficulties.

Snow is ace because you can do stuff like this.
