Got to be Bally for me , the " I cried when I left Everton" quote from him and the dark quote from Harry Catterick that " one day I'll write the truth about why he was sold". I marked his quote and vowed to buy his book one day to find out the truth. Not sure, did anything new ever come out?

As a kid gutted when McKenzie left for Chelsea, likewise Andy King to WBA,then you become hardened to it and its all a bit meh:)PS and of course Terry departing for Tulsa Roughnecks;)lol

Only young enough to remember Rooney and Arteta. Both had me in bits, fuming.

Probably Arteta though. I do remember just shaking my head at the tele for the Rooney one but I full on booted a table when Arteta left, I was properly gutted. Spanish fraud.

Was a bit miffed when Jeffers asked to leave, but he didn't do much after he had his wish,so it didn't matter really.

Hibbert. Nah but Beckford proper pissed me off for some reason. Obviously the ones above in my lifetime were more gutting, but seemed timely/ inevitable.

Think the answer is No, on that mate, there was rumours flying around that he had gambling debts,I thought it was a smoke screen at the time tbh. Think a lot of Evertonians fell out of love wih H C. After that.

I think you are right about becoming hardened to it. From a similar era to those you've mentioned I'd also add David Johnson and Steve McMahon. Both came through our own youth system and you knew they were going to become really good players. Getting Rod Belfitt in exchange for Johnson was an absolute joke.

The Johnson/Belfitt trade is one of the great mysteries......there seemed nor rhyme nor reason to it.

Why would anyone trade a young, exciting prospect for an over the hill no mark?

There were rumours that Johnson had to get out of town because of a woman but they never substantiated to the best of my knowledge.
