Bumping this as just read the book and the sermon does him justice. Greatest Everton player I've ever seen and he loved us.

Also just confirmed on twitter that he doesn't mind pineapple on pizza which is sound as it's Nev.

My favourite player ever. Just huuuge in every single game he played. I only caught him from '89 onwards, so just missed the title-winning years. But even in the early-90's it wasn't just us Everton fans calling him the best stopper in the world, fans of other clubs would routinely admit it too.

Since Big Nev we've had other club heroes, like our Dunc, and Timmy, but backing your heroic Everton time with proper trophies goes a long way. He'll be seen as up there with Dixie Dean when in decades to come we discuss who is the all-time Great of our club.

And nicely topical, here's an Echo article on Nev vs Cheltenham

Big Nev is tops. No doubt about it. Ordered the Everton Encyclopedia, and was supposed to get a copy of Nev's book with it, but only the encyclopedia came. Bummed about that. Still going to pick it up. I really do miss these Sunday Sermons and the poster who penned them. They were a huge part of my Everton education, the author, a professor.

I saw the back end of Neville, that 95 final and the one handed save was the highlight of my childhood.

Oh and if you wipe sitting down, you're a massive wool

Legend. I even went to watch him at Rhyl once, years after finishing playing for us.

Despite being nearly 50 in stone and years he was still fookin awesome.
