The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

Not really good enough then.

Couldn't agree more. He's the most frustrating player I've ever seen. That spell when we were in the UEFA Cup and he dominated everyone we played against for about 3 months was probably the best I've seen from a striker at Everton for 15 years. 3 weeks later and he's gash again. Properly gash.

If we get him for around £3-4m and we brought in a top class striker then i wouldnt be too unhappy. He's an improvement on Anichebe and i know we say this every year, but he scored more than Anichebe and Jelavic last season in a Wigan side that got relegated. Im not saying he'd get us 20 goals but with players like Mirallas, Pienaar, Barkley, Gibson, Baines, Coleman all around him, he could get us a decent return.

Honestly if we sign the two main links from today's news and don't sell anyone important I will be pretty happy! Honda and Kone would both be very good additions to the team and although I'd like more I can't see us having a massive budget.

If you look at the salary savings from the departure of Moyes,Neville,Hitzlesperger,Mucha and probably Heitinga you are probably looking at savings of 10m+ per annum which could be spent at the managers pleasure without changing anything from last seasons structure.
That is without factoring in any player sales or additional T.V money.

We ran at a £9m loss with those wages on the balance sheet. Of the five you've named Moyes alone earned £3m a year - it's not a stretch to beleive that Neville and Heitinga were both on £2m a year so yeah, call it £10m a year.

But Heitinga HASN'T left. And we've hired Martinez and his entourage. So we've only ACTUALLY reduced that £10m wage figure by the total value of Mucha's, Hitz's and maybe Neville's wages - how much do you reckon that is? £4m maybe?

In conclusion, we've cut our expenditure by £4m over the year. Last year we lost £9m, so this year we'll lose £5m if NOTHING ELSE changes.

So no, we don't have £10m to spend as a result of Moyes, Neville, Mucha and Hitz leaving. We've simply reduced our losses a bit. We have a £44m (approx) debt which is growing by between £5m and £9m a year. On those figures, we NEED to sell Felli in order to improve the squad - he earns between £3m and £4m a year AND we would pocket £23m-ish. So we would reduce our outgoings by the value of his wages AND generate a pot of money with which to pay for the purchase and wages of more players.

It's simple maths, nothing more.

I'd like to think we could do find a younger striker than Kone with potential such as Niang although I realise we would be gambling a lot paying 7 or 8 mill for them, it's a gamble I'd like us to take.

However Kone is no where near as bad as people make out, not only did he do well here, he also scored goals in Spain prior to coming and like was Michu wasn't really too hard to spot, the scoring charts showed them clear enough however his signing is the opposite of what I want us to do, I can understand why Martinez may choose him and he'll do well if he signs.

I don't think we will sign anyone for a fee until we have sold someone first.

A lot of the rumours are just media bull****.

I think we should be going for someone younger. His goal scoring record isn't impressive enough to be chucking money away on him, considering he may only be decent for a few years.

This.

£6.5m for Kone is absurd - every ACON he will be away for a month, and at 29 he will have zero resale value in less than three years.

He's a one-season stopgap. £6.5m is too much for a one-season stopgap. £6.5m could buy Honda or De Guzman, and both would be better purchases.

Raffinha (Thiago's younger brother) has been linked with a loan to us is about to sign a contract extension and might agree a loan move to Celta Vigo.

I am still not convinced we are in for Kone but if we are I would be OK with it. For £5m we would get a guy who has scored goals within the Martinez style of play.

Like the one goal he scored for Sevilla.
