Blue Wiz
Player Valuation: £25m
ok.. another transferwindow has passed.. and how did we do during this one? If we look simply at numbers.. not too good. Our previously thin squad is even thinner now. Some of those we let go might not have been playing much or even at all, but they were there as experienced backups, and those positives can't be ignored.
in: Nash, Saha, Jacobsen, Felliani, Castillo
out: Fernandes, Gravesen, Carsley, Wessels, AJ, Gardener, Stubbs, Boyle, Vidarsson
GK: Lost Wessels and signed Nash, a 3:rd in line goalie from Wigan at the end of the window.. smells desperation to me to get another experienced keeper. And it also makes me wonder if Moyes see any future for Ruddy or Turner in the future.
Def: Jacobsen in. Danish international which is a plus. Denmark might not be the best team in Europe, but it's still a decent team and hopefully he can mix the positive sides of Hibbert and Neville. Let Gardener, Stubbs and Boyle go. Gardener and Boyle didn't participate so Stubbs was the only real loss..
Mid: Bought Felliani and have loaned Castillo, but we've lost Carsley, Gravesen, Fernandes, Vidarsson, and daSilva in January. True Gravesen and Vidarsson didn't participate either, but Carsley was a constant in the team and Fernandes was a creative player who I for one will miss. Both Felliani and Castillo are internationals and have experience. Big plus for the long contract on Felliani and his young age. I hope Felliani will come true for us so we won't miss Carsley in the future. Castillo is more of an unknown to me and I think he'll be more of a backup.. which we need.
Att: AJ is gone. He didn't have a productive season this time around, but he had to play second fiddle to Yakubu the whole season. But with his pace he was a constant threat to any defence. McFadden left in January as well. Instead we have bought Saha. He undoubtadly have an eye for the goal.. but he also have an eye for the hospital and a comfortable sickbed. We can also hope that Baxter will follow Vaughan and Anichebe into the first team more often during this season. Just keep the fingers crossed that he won't follow Vaughan and Saha into the hospital as well..
Add to that the fact that all signings have come in the last week, which means that none of the new players have slotted into the team yet, and won't be fully into the squad for a couple of weeks. If we had signed these players earlier in the summer I'd be happier. But even so, I'm not thrilled with our beloved club this summer. We finished comfortable in fifth place last season after fighting for 4:th a large part of the season, and I had expected more punch during the summer to cement that position and take the battle closer to the "top 4".
Taking all this into account I'd only give Everton a 6 out of 10 this summer. Ok, but not more.
