The Squad

FM or FIFA time but ok...

I consider the following players are in the first team squad.

Goalkeeper: Robles, Stekelenburg

Right-back: Coleman, Holgate

Centre-back: Williams, Jagielka, Funes Mori

Left-back: Baines

Holding midfielder: Schneiderlin, Barry

Defensive midfielder: McCarthy, Gana, Besic

Central midfielder: Davies

Attacking midfielder: Barkley

Winger: Mirallas, Bolasie, Lookman

Striker: Lukaku, Calvert-Lewin

Loan out: Tarashaj, Browning, Dowell, Galloway, Pennington (shall loan out these players to get regular first team football in the Championship or even setup deals with option to buy). They can be recalled at anytime in the season.

Getting rid of:
Deulofeu (off to Milan or Barcelona for around £12m)
Kone (contract expired in June...released)
Lennon (£4m to a lower mid-table PL club)
Cleverley (deal is done to Watford for £8m)
Valencia (loan is coming to an end; will return to West Ham as Everton not taking up the option to buy)
Niasse (hopefully Hull will take up the option to buy for around £10m)
Garbutt (Championship club may buy him for a small fee)
Grant (a deal to Doncaster is done apparently)
McAleny (contract expired in June...released)
Rodriguez (just give him away for free and get him off the wage bill...no one will pay a fee for him)
McGeady (hopefully to Preston for £1/2m)

Summary:
Williams will stay definiately. Jagielka and Barry to give us one more year as experienced back-up. I am hoping Barkley will decide to stay and sign a new long term contract. If not, his fee shall let Koeman signs a good replacement from the foreign league. It seems like Lukaku is leaving in the summer...likewise his fee shall let Koeman signs two strikers with good reputation. Providing both Ross and Rom are still staying with Everton in September, Everton still need to acquire the following:

1. A first choice goalie
2. A first choice centre-back
3. A left-back who provides competition with Baines and shall be his long term replacement in one or two years time. Can be an utility man.
4. A first choice playmaker/attacking midfielder/winger who shares the creativity duty with Barkley.
5. A striker. If Lukaku stays, we need a good enough squad player who provides competition and shares the workload with Lukaku. If Lukaku is gone his fee will let Koeman buys two strikers who are both good enough to lead the frontline.
Welcome to the world of FM/FIFA

Attack

Barkley -- Lukaku -- New Player
Lookman -- Calvert-Lewin -- Mirallas
We need a top left sided forward and also a centre forward to rotate with Lukaku.
*Bolasie also to return + Dowell to come through?

Midfield
Davies -- Schneiderlin -- Gueye
Besic -- Barry -- McCarthy
The starting three looks strong but Besic/McCarthy are injury prone and Barry is past it. Ideally we need another to come in here to add another dimension and in case of injuries.
*Walsh and Williams to come through?

Defence
Holgate -- New Player -- New Player -- Baines
Kenny/Connolly -- Penno/Jags -- Williams/Mori -- Galloway
We lack pace in the central areas and if we are going to push up the pitch and attack teams then we need to play a high line, none of our centre backs are able to do this. It's crucial that we bring in a couple of centre backs who are more suited to playing a high defensive line.
Additionally we need a new left back to take over Baines position.
*Coleman also to return

Keeper
New Player
Robles/Stekelenburg
We have a keeper with lots of experience and also another one who is getting experience but isn't quite good enough. It's imperative that we sign a new keeper.

Players required
First choice keeper
First choice centre back
First choice centre back
First choice left forward
Rotation left back
Rotation centre midfielder
Rotation centre forward

GK -- New player / Robles / Stekelenburg
RB -- Holgate / Kenny / Connolly /Coleman
CB -- New Player / Jagielka / Pennington
CB -- New Player / Williams / Mori
LB -- Baines / New player / Galloway
DM --Schneiderlin / New Player / Barry
CM -- Davies / Besic
CM -- Gueye / McCarthy
LF -- New player / Mirallas
CF -- Lukaku / New player / Calvert-Lewin
RF -- Barkley / Lookman / Bolasie

This squad is then already 31 players ignoring Dowell, Walsh. Williams and others coming through....we are likely to lose:

Deulofeu (I think he will leave although I like him)
Kone (free)
Lennon
Cleverley (gone for 8mil)
Valencia (end of loan)
Tarashaj
Browning
Grant
McAleny
Garbutt
McGeady
Niasse
Rodriguez

Who else can we sell on to trim our squad down to 25 players as it will be huge if we make the necessary signings this summer? This will impact our wage budget which allows us to sign the first team players needed to push to top 4.
Nice post mate.

I think we need a new rotation RB for a season who is able to cover that position when Coleman is back in his top form and that may be one year away from now. A player like Bacary Sagna would be perfect to give us the needed competition and experience.

In my opinion we also need way more a box-to-box midfielder than another DM. Besic is a DM for me and he should be good enough to cover that position together with Barry.

Mori to stay here or be sold if we are able to buy a 2nd centre back, who should be our new leader of defence, a star. VVD/de Vrij type.

McCarthy to be sold. Always injured and 20m type of money would be perfect to sell him to buy a new international supertalent like Tielemans, Kessie or Jankto.

Also with Rooney likely incoming, he likely will battle for a place with Tom Davies as the most offensive player in midfield. With EL participation both of them should get huge amount of games. Rooney is too old to play all the games, Davies too young, we need to count with 2nd season syndrome with him a little bit.

GK -- New player / Robles / Stekelenburg
RB -- New player / Coleman / Holgate / Kenny
CB -- New Player / Jagielka / Pennington
CB -- New Player / Williams / Feeney
LB -- Baines / New player / Galloway / Connolly
DM -- Schneiderlin / Barry / Besic / Joe Williams
CM -- Gueye / New Player / Walsh
AM -- Davies / New Player / Dowell
LF -- New player / Mirallas / Donkor
CF -- Lukaku / New player / Calvert-Lewin / Sambou
RF -- Barkley / Bolasie / Lookman

All players in italic are these hugely used for U23 team or to be loaned out for experience. Underlined players are players that are clear part of the first team squad: 28 players squad with two players injured long-term and 3 youngsters that should still be heavily involved in U23 football. Number-wise a similar type of squad like LFC or Arsenal have.

Ideally as these new players I see: Pickford, Sagna, Keane, VVD, Kolasinac, Tielemans, Rooney, Sigurdsson, Defoe.

Don't you think Holgate is fine at right back and then we have Kenny and also Connolly for rotation.

Would you class davies as an attacking midfielder? I look at gueye being the destroyer and davies being the centre mid on the opposite side to him...

Id definitely move mori on + pennington and have jags and Williams as backup to 2 new centre backs...alsoagree on McCarthy and a supertalented u21 player to come in....isn't jankto the kid from ascoli? name rings a bell...

Also, I'm confused why so many on here think rooney is coming, I cant imagine it...

Holgate seems to be fine, but I really don't support the idea that our only RBs in the first half of the coming season should be just players under the age of 21. We can't win just with the kids. In ideal case I would like to see a player like Sagna here for a year.

I see Davies somewhere between CM and AM, close to being a box-to-box midfielder, but I think he has also some creativity in him. In any case he is ideal to play Gana, agree. Two of Gana, a player like Tielemans and Davies in front of Schneiderlin would be an ideal case for the next season IMO.

I can see Pennington staying here as Jags can have his legs gone any week. But likely would not be the worst thing to happen, I really rate Feeney.

And Jankto is now in Udinese, great box-to-box talent, recently signed a new contract. Was loaned out to Ascoli the last year, you are right. Scored this screamer a few weeks ago past Joe Hart.

At full back I think we need to give Kenny a couple of games now to see if hes good enough. Id keep Holgate and him there so they will keep improving...

Pennington, I think needs a loan to a championship side as he doesn't look up to this level...yet?

Jankto scored a screamer there...seems to have scored a few this season, is he playing on the left?

If Kenny shows he is capable of playing PL football, then I agree.

Agree with Pennington, even though I am not against keeping him here as 5th centre back. Galloway or Holgate could take that role too though. Feeney could be capable to step up as well.

And yeah, Jankto is playing on the left in midfield in 4-3-3 formation. Decent talent.

You do all realise that only recently Koeman said he prefers a squad of 17/18 players and then make it up with young players.
Not to be smart but I doubt he will take advice from this forum.
He will do things his way.
We have no idea how much Koeman /Walsh have to spend
We only have some idea of who he wants to get rid of
We have very little idea of the players he wants.
We don't know what his options are if his first /second choice won't sign for us
All just meaningless speculation.
As was pointed out in another thread.
Remember deadline day last summer.
Valencia on loan.

It would suggest that we all have to hope we have some amazing talent coming from the youth set up, as the signing of one or two marquee players might be the extent of spending.

This looks like the team of players who are around the first team and/or likely to come through next
Keeper
Kenny....Pennington....Galloway....Left Back
Williams.....Walsh.....Baningime
Lookman.....Calvert-Lewin.....Left Forward
Holgate and Davies have already cemented places as starters.

Depending on a few of those players consistently being in the first team squad I can see quite a few signings being made into the u23s.

Ideally we need to give as many as possible some time playing in first team games now to assess if theyre ready to act as cover. Then we can use our funds for first team starters or kids to replace those coming through.
