Koeman knows how to setup a team with width. The problem is he prefers not to. It's insanity or stubbornness on his part.
We have the personnel to play two inside forwards who are instructed to move out wide when we are in possession of the ball and challenge the opposition full backs and usually a centre back. This then facilitates midfielders running from deep into the last third.
The problem with Koemans setup is that our two inside forwards or no10s are instructed to stay narrow, hence offering nothing from the wide areas and causing congestion in the middle.
The other downside to this narrow tactic is that it suffocates space and movement which is why we look like statues.
For a narrow tactic to be successful, you need a team that presses high and has pace to burn from the front players. The idea is to force the opposition into errors by pressing high and then getting behind the defence via pace.
The problem is we don't have the personnel to deploy this tactic. I'm lost as to what is going through Koemans mind. As I said, he is either insane or stubborn.
