Might just be me, but feels more mangers these days basically give up, broadcast they’ve down so, and wait to be sacked rather then resign.

We’ve had it a few times in the not too distant past. I know you had it with Dyche. There’s plenty more too.

Yup, it's about egos now. Sir Jim'll Brexit For You went all in on this Pep-slayer from Portugal and the fans went all in on "patience" - because they piously imagined themselves to be anything other than the entitled mob that they've always been as a PR contrast to the neighbours. They've all made a virtue of this: "I see improvements from Ten Hag, already", "It'll need time, but he's brilliant..."...

Now? Doing the right thing - getting rid of Interim - would mean exposing themselves to the truth and their stance to ridicule. Of course, they'd also have to purge the entire leadership of the club - which is not going to happen as the leadership doesn't care. The Glazers have played a blinder. This is Sir Jim's problem now.

It reminds me, to some extent, of our own fans with Lampard. They'd gone so far in wishing for the best so that they could "enjoy the football", that they put their fingers in their ears and sang la la la la la as we were being humiliated from one week to the next in places like Bournemouth and...Goodison Park.

Surely that were always the case though. Unless it’s just wages have increased so much that’s it’s life changing to be sacked?

The amount of money that they backed him with for players in this window, they’ll look like morons if they sacked him now.

It’ll be another couples of months before they sack him, I think.

They backed Ten Hag with £200m too and sacked him, what, 4 months after they gave him a new deal?

Depends on their contract, but you'd imagine that it will be most likely over a million for most PL managers. Hell might even be 8 figures if the manager is top drawer and it's a big money club desperate to get them when they got him.

I suspect they'll have to pay the remainder of their contract if they sack them. But it depends, they may have performance related stuff in their contracts that would reduce payments. Dunno. But seems better to get yourself sacked than facing a couple of years intense stress.

I think the way the contracts are structured these days is that the club would be liable to pay up the remainder of the contract but with a few caveats.

Pay monthly until sacked manager finds another job or until end of contract if still unemployed. Alternatively, offer a reduced lump sum less than the value of the contract remaining to get a clean break for both parties.

It'd be a full basic contract and any bonuses that are time related (e.g. a loyalty bonus if they'd seen out their contract).

Performance related contracts are negotiable or just not paid.
