The Rodwell Incident

Lack of confidence. Lack of understanding of where to play. Scared of messing up. Scared of pushing forward.

Don't think hell progress at everton unless he's given responsibility , a main position, and games.

Keep him in the CM position for the full season and we will see him flourish. I dont know how people can call players useless etc, when they never play in the same position, or dont play regularly amongst the same players.

He needs to just keep on going, fill Artetas position

Fellaini at times, when he first came looked like he would never make a player, Moyes kept with him and look at him now.

Rodwell just needs the same, thats all.

Special boy Jack Rodwell, shame on all those that wish to sell him.

Rodwell has the potential to be one of the worlds best midfielders.

Next to Fellaini he will be amazing......

I must be one of the few who isn't all that keen on seeing Rodwell and Fellaini partnering eachother. I get it, in theory, but until Jack starts expressing himself and playing a more expansive game, it's nothing more than a "so, so" partnership. Fellaini keeps possession and clocks up alot of short passes and that's fine for a defensive midfielder, but his partner, the playmaker, needs to have a bit more about him. Osman's hardly Xabi Alonso, but he takes that extra touch in midfield, weighs up his options and can knit things together with short, intricate passing. That's the base of the side, and we look so much more balanced with a clever footballer in the middle of the park.

I'd actually like to see Rodwell as the more advanced midfielder, just ahead of Fellaini and Osman. Or at the very least alongside Osman with Fellaini sitting behind them, similar to how Barca centre midfield lines up.

Its all about expectations. If he was some kid off the street we would be raving about him. But cos he's been hyped as the next big thing, we go nuts at every misplaced pass.

I had this discussion with davek when he was talking about a Scott Parker-Fellaini centre mid, which he thought would be really nice. I agree with you and it applies here. I always say one-twos in central midfield are the building blocks of football, if you haven't got someone that knows how to go forwards from that position you get nowhere at all. Neither of Rodwell or Fellaini can do that.

exactly, writing off a lad who is 20, unreal, try backing him and not putting him under unbelievable pressure. You are supposed to be fans, act like it he's 20, yes 20 how many players at 20 dominate the premiership? come on people it seems your always looking for the next scapegoat. He is lacking confidence plain to see and it doesn't help when his so called fans turn on him.

I'd rather see Barkley as an advanced central midfielder to be honest. I dislike having two out and out defensive mids but I thought Rodwell had a bit more to his game. It's not like Heitinga or Neville playing there as Rodwell has a bit of pace and...

actually, I don't even know what he has anymore. He's shown glimpses of everything but not enough of anything for me to say where his best position is. But in a very short time Ross has shown to me that he'd be devastating in an advanced, central role.

Spoke to a friend of mine who watched the game and he said that he looked so out of shape, worryingly this is supposed to be the boy who is going to replace Arteta in that central anchorman role.

But give the boy some time.

He does, and he has the potential to be a much more expansive footballer than Fellaini aswell, but it isn't happening for him at the moment, and I don't think it's going to change overnight. He isn't ready to be conductor of the orchestra.

As for Barkley, I'd love to see it, but he can play anywhere. You could play him right back and he'd pop up all over the place. He's also one of the few players we have who can dribble and carry the ball, so he's needed outwide for now.
