We have played 22 since he left, that will do. Played 22, won 2.
But then again, wasn't the Moyesiah leaving the reason we got into a mess?

The manager subsequently to him had no time to build any team up whatsoever...he got 11 years and still handed the Kopites 13 piece of piss derby wins.

We never lost a derby by more than 3 goals under Moyes. We only lost by 3 goals twice in 11 years.

We lost by 4 goals twice in 3 years under his successor.

Moyes was the ultimate Kenwright lackey and both of them were creators and cultivators of the plucky little Everton way of thinking.

I see no reason to celebrate his so called impending second coming, with the blaring of trumpets and the rolling out of red carpets.

Moyes is a hero and idol to all who celebrate and wish to continue the plucky little Everton philosophy.

We’ve tried 8 different managers since that have been rubbish. You think the 9th was definitely going to turn it alll around though..
I don’t think anyone can turn it around now.
This appointment ( assuming it goes through ) confirms it .
Everton died a long time ago.
This ‘Everton’ is a creation of Kenwright and Moyes .
It is fitting and timely we are leaving Goodison ,
this Everton isn’t fit to play there and should have been kicked out long ago.
Second rate club , second rate owners , second rate manager.
Only the supporters remain top quality .

Other than @JobForTheMoyes, is anyone remotely enthused by this? He won't be here for 6 months he'll be here a minimum of 18 months and will take us into the new stadium with a "plucky little Everton" attitude. It's like leaving your house because of all of the black mould but then deliberately taking the fungal spores with you into the new gaff. A real retrograde step, in my opinion.
But if he recreates the form of his West Ham and Everton periods then we will be laughing. Mid-table and then a European push next season. This group is much better than they have been showing.

I'm amazed so many people have a defeatist attitude. Way worse than the "knife to a gunfight" idea, as that only applied to the teams we realistically had no chance of competing with.

I agree, the Moyes we got in 2003? Is vastly different to the Moyes of 2025.

He left to take probably one of the biggest jobs in club football at the time.

All his best results seem to be done in his second season, which is strange because everyone seems to want him binned off before then.

Exactly.

He's not a short term option (nor the long term) for me, based on his 2 half a season jobs at West Ham, Sunderland, Man Utd and R.Sociedad.

People making out like Moyes is a safe pair of hands, when he joined West Ham in November 2017, he drawn an lost more than he won and West Ham couldn't see the back of him quick enough and he left that summer. When he rejoined them in December 2019, "West Ham finished in 16th place in the Premier League with 39 points, their lowest points tally since 2010–11 when they gained 33 points and finished bottom. Moyes' 19 games in charge produced 20 points, one more than the previous 19 games managed by Manuel Pellegrini" - and Covid saved their arse that season.
His record at Sunderland, Man Utd and R.Sociedad indicate how he does short term.

If you want to give him 5+ years, like first Everton stint and West Ham then fair enough. I wouldn't.

I'm not ecstatic moyes is returning but I understand it , I believe he is far more capable than dyche and cam actually develop squads, I also fathom it can be difficult to perceive his tenure here objectively as enabled and shielded kenwright's exploitative and detrimental governance of the club. But solely on the merits as a manager operating on a budget much more miniscule than what a promoted team operates on or even burnley under dyche , moyes recruitment was shrewd and he was able to achieve top 7 finishes consistently with a very limited budget. I would prefer 6 month contract myself with someone else being involved long term but I prefer it substantially over dyche , hope Carsley is his number 2 and push him to be a little more attacking. But I do get the frustrations. Although we are mired just above relegation so stability needs to be priority and with moyes he has the capacity to avert going down while building the team for the future rather than just extinguishing fires as dyche admirably did last season.
