Oh and does this mean Finland was against us? If so I am fuming here Finnfan.
I think the Russians had a separate expansionist agenda as far as Finland is concerned so the Finns just defended themselves. Not sure though. They might have been bad nazis.

Saunas on the front line. That is simply brilliant

The finns used to get operatives behind enemy lines by ski jumping over the trenches. they had no air force so had to, and thus invented an olympic sport.

I remember reading the books of Sven Hassel as a kid, think he was Finnish.... it was an account of him fighting for ze germans in ww2. Fantastic stuff.

Read a couple of those books too, top stuff.

That winter war was super. The Russians were poorly prepared for winter warfare (which ironically was the reason the Nazis failed against them, 20 miles from Moscow) and the Finns turned into snow guerillas, skiing around their positions, flanking, and attacking them with great success. The Finns can fight like, not just innocent baby seals to their credit.

Eventually the sheer resources of Ivan overcome them sadly just before the Brits were coming to help them through northern Norway, which was Churchill's brainchild.

Also to add to that, hadn't Stalin executed most of the Red Army's officers, leaving very inexperienced men in command? Or am I thinking of a different conflict?

i once saw article about how english newspapers reacted to that war at that time, your country was very supportive to us. i tried to find examples from net but i couldnt find any...

Well the Winter was was in 1939-1940, and the Great Purge that he ordered was in 1936-38, so I guess that's correct.

Fun fact: Joseph Stalin's birth-name isn't Stalin, and he's not even Russian.
