Every now and then a photograph is taken which is so undeniably poignant that it serves the earth like a distinct memory does for us.
Sometimes these snapshots in time are too horrible to contemplate and sometimes they show the very best and brightest of humanity.
Either way, each one deserves the thought it gets and here are some of the most powerful pictures out there.

“Wait For Me Daddy,” by Claude P. Dettloff, October 1, 1940: As soldiers march in British Columbia on to a waiting train, five-year-old Whitey Bernard runs to reach out for his father.
12-year-old Diego Frazão Torquato, from Brazil, playing the violin at his teacher’s funeral who had helped him escape poverty and violence through music
Scott Jones kisses his girlfriend Alex Thomas after she was knocked to the ground by a police officer’s riot shield in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Dr. Religa monitors his patient’s vitals after a 23 hour long heart transplant surgery. His assistant is sleeping in the corner.
The patient not only survived the surgery, but outlived his doctor.
