The Process...

Plus you don't just have a transfer in isolation. During the Baines transfer negotiations we have had both Vaughn and Cahill crocked. Which means that other necessities come into play. Do we need another attacking midfielder, do we need another forward, and if so, who might be available, and where can we free up funds to find them, and how does that affect what we can pay for a left back, want him however much we may?

Saying "open your pockets, Kenwright" might make us all feel better, but it's in the same class of fantasy world where we believe that Arab and American buyers are lining up to buy us, we have money to compete for the top players, and we can all stay at Goodison once we've moved it six inches to the left on a deliveryman's dolly.

So,

Step 1 - Identify the player you want...
Step 2 - Check the bank account for the necessary funds...
Step 3 - Contact the players club and enquire about the players availability...
Step 4 - Make a bid for the player...
Step 5 - Hold talks with player...
Step 6 - Announce signing...
We are at Step 4.5 - Make a too low bid for the player to let other clubs know we are interested and wait for Newcastle to hijack the transfer. If they don't we go to Step 5.

Baines to barcodes? I don't think so, he'll either come to us or stay at Wigan.

But if he does go there, he sucks. (But he doesn't, so he won't.)

I do suspect the process is stalled due to DM's bereavement and BT stalling over blades, and will get wrapped up quickly, one way or another, by Tuesday.
