I have never had a pastie but this damn thread (which I tend to read religiously every time there's a new post) makes need one. You can keep the Bovril (Danny and I have already hashed that evilness out) but throw a pastie in the mail for me.

Waites' Bakery - Hebden Bridge.

Poor selection of pasties. Had to settle for the cornish. Nice pastry, adequate filling, nicely seasoned. Had peas in it though, which made me swear in front of children, cue much tutting from nearby old people.

Incidentally I also had the pies from here (purely in the name of reviewing), the pork pie was fabulous. Hot, fresh and juicy with crisp tasty hot-water crust pastry. The beef pie was similar but grey mystery meat. Meat and potato was dry and a little disappointing.

In the interest of international fairness, we should start an Official Burger Thread.

Alas, it's come and gone and without me crafting some pasties for the missus. She'll be disappointed I reckon.

Do your Puritanical government elements force your pole dancing ladies to wear pasties? Utter joke. Is covering the areola bits going to keep my tittilation at bay? The worst are the non-nude dance clubs. Seriously, why would you go? If I wanted to watch girls (not super cute ones mind you) frolic about in a bikini, I'd just schlep over to the North Avenue or Oak Street beaches here in the lovely Windy City. Better scenery and no drink minimum.

I've been to both - I think the Red Lion has shuttered up. Only legit English pub about. Plenty of "irish" knock-offs. All you need is an irish name, paint "slainte" above the front door and hang a hurley somewhere in the bar and voila - you've got yourself an Irish pub. Kind of a travesty, actually.

Grace O'Malley's is a decent spot - close to Soldier Field so it's a good Bears pre-game spot. Not one of my favorites and actually have never eaten there. Next time I'm down there, I'll order up a pastie and let you know. I've never had a proper one so my review will certainly be off the mark.
