The ozil situation

Could be anything mate. Modern contracts are like small novels.

Could be appearances = more cash. Or an extension.

It might be that a payment for image rights is triggered.

Or it could be that Arteta reckons he has no need for him in his team, but like you, am surprised he hasnt made at the EL squad. Hence, the suggestion that its contract related.
Well, he did reportedly refuse to take a wage cut following the lockdown, but surely they wouldn't hold that over him

Why should he take a wage cut to help out billionaire Stan Kreonke? Anyone suggesting any employee, anywhere should give up money to not effect the bottom line of a massive organization is telling on his or herself.

I do agree. They canned 50 of their non-playing staff anyway, even after the players took a paycut.

I don't think any player actually took a wage cut and they agreed to only a wage percentage deferral, (it does still help the clubs out though.)

No sympathy for Ozil at all. Ultimately he's had numerous chances to go, hasn't taken them. He's obviously content to sit on his arse and do a Bolasie.

I also have no sympathy for the club. They gave the contract willingly.

A greedy individual and an incompetent club. It happens. We've been masters at it over the past few years.

Isn't it Ozil actually good mate with Erdogan, you know actual dictator responsible for human rights abuse in Turkey and thousands of dead Kurds. I believe he was at Ozil wedding. Also this China thing. Maybe something about that behind the scenes.

Probably gonna get very ugly between Arse and Ozil in near future (in PR terms).

Was thinking the same. Games may trigger some mad clause

Madness he is on a huge wage if they weren't going to register him loan him out. Between this and them sacking a load of staff Arsenal have gone right down in my estimation.

Arsenal panicked after losing Alexis Sanchez to United and thrown huge money on Ozil. Since signing that contract Ozil barely had good game for Arse (at least while he still played).

But he is classic old fashioned number 10, player who need someone else to do dirty business for him, and classic number 10 like him are like dinosaurs in modern game. Modern football is all about power and pace.

This is definitely the Ughyur thing. He’s been frozen out and still under contract so he can’t play for anyone else. Arsenal are a horrible club for doing this. There is no way he’s not good enough to make a 32 man squad.
I read they wanted to terminate his contract and pay him to go but he refused because by staying he got 8 million "loyalty" bonus for this year. Can't blame him, its Arsenal fault for giving him this kind of contract, i would do the same on his place.

He gonna get big money this year for doing nothing and probably go next year to that Erdogan owned club in Turkey or maybe MLS

The thing is he's a really good player. I remember him all over us at Goodison a few years ago.

Money, agents and contracts are the bane of football.

Only because greedy chairmen and exploitative contracts were the bane of football for years previously. None of these contracts come into force now without negotiation and there are a lot of agents who do right by their clients who are often employed by billionaire businessmen who will willingly throw them under a bus if the situation suits them.

If clubs are willing to splash that kind of cash then they have only themselves to blame. And if supporters are willing to help fund that model then they should take a share of complicity.

Seems to be a problem we are having with a lot of players recently and short term contracts with a club option to extend have to be the way to go.

Although a footballer's career is short, I think ozil should have taken it on the chin and taken the wage cut. It Wouldn't surprise me if a new law came into football soon to allow clubs to shorten the contract if a player is underperforming. I mean he is literally taking 250k + a week from arsenal now until it expires and giving nothing in return.
If that’s what a club wants they can write it into a contract. They could structure a payment with high appearance bonus and smaller basics. However players in demand will just sign for a club that offer the best deals.
