I don't want the Olympics to end

Agreed 100%, it has been a nice distraction, the weather has turned up for it, it has kept bad news from being omnipresent, the human stories alongside the awe of the sports has been fascinating. Before hand I was a bit skeptical though I had a shred of hope for a GB showing but couldnt have imagined how successful a games in terms of achievement but also in terms of how well ran, how without incident, the good nature and atmosphere of the games. It has been a privilege & is a privilege the country wont see for another 50 years. I dont want Coe knighted though.

I think Sebastian has done a damn fine job tbh. the Tory chunt has done a far better job than I ever expected.

Would've liked to have seen Steve Ovett sat up there with him at some point though.

Not one moment of Linford in the flesh. That is how hated he is. Im gutted for him, I dont reckon he was doping when he was 'caught', but thats enough of that. So far as the games has gone, there have only been four or five expulsions for doping so far IIRC. I know there were expulsions before the games but thats not 'on' London so to speak.

If they went on another week I think it would do people's head in. They have been brilliant, but its right time 2 end it now and get football back.

I've done no work at home for the last two weeks. Terrible distraction. But I just love, as Ijjy says, having competitive sport on the TV all the time.

In Australia it starts as soon as I get home at around 630/7pm and then doesn't finish until after I leave for work at 6am. So basically I've been coming home, doing now work, smashing wine, and watching the Olympics all night. Kind of sad. Haha.

So right now, I feel like a holiday is coming to an end. Still two days of my holiday to go, but you can't help but feel depressed.

Do you think he was totally innocent mate ? That the ephedrine he tested positive for in 88 as from ginseng tea and the nandrolone in the 90's from food supplements and avocado ? For me the big issue with christie is he's one of those fella's who unlike everybody else got noticeably faster as he got older as evidence by the meteoric rise up the rankings as he aged which I'm pretty sure was totally unrelated to those positive tests. I'm reading the book about the Seoul 88 race but haven't finished it to give it's opinion on christie but I can guess where it's going and that may well be like almost everyone else in that race he's tainted strongly by drug taking allegations. The RS can't accept Suarez was found guilty by the FA & many reuse I accept Tyson is a convicted rapist but like them christie was found guilty , in his case by the IAAF . I'm not sure it sends the right image for the beeb to use a guy found guilty of being 'a drugs cheat'

I did make special mention of when he was 'caught'. Im as sure as I can be that he was a doper like the rest of the field back in the day, my feeling is that when he came out of retirement on a bet with his stable of runners about being able to run still the authorities he had upset in the past took the opportunity to either break a sample out of the freezer to do him, or simply tainted one themselves just to make sure he lost out. He was a multi millionaire off the track through endorsements and sponsors & had he not been shafted by a rogue doping offence from a point of being retired then he would still be raking in cash and doing tv and training athletes and sponsors now.
As for drugs cheats, Gatlin got bronze, her from Turkey got gold, Millar cycled and Chambers ran next to Bolt for 60 meters. The blanket ban for Christie that has nothing to do with the IAAF is strictly a personal thing, try and find the phone in he did with Coe.

I did notice how you phrased it mate but wasn't sure of your stance on it all , just what I've read in that book so far the whole sport was incredibly 'corrupt' from top to bottom with absolutely all kinds going on & all kinds of strokes being pulled. If stuff like that interests you mate you should definitely have a look 'dirtiest race in history' . There is a bloke called Calvin smith who they think if it was 'clean' back then would have been the number one , you have to feel sorry fir him really.

Before this Olympics began they should have opened a batch of old samples from previous games and unmasked some of the cheats who got away with it back in the day. Would have been a major deterrent to athletes who think they can escape detection in the present.

The legal battles that would have meant would have cost a fee that would dwarf the cost of the games themselves.
