If Dai Greene can get it together he can medal as well.

Who knows Ennis might give the hurdles a go as well, she's fast enough.

I love the game of football, but I have little respect for most footballers.

From watching the Olympics live and on TV I am staggered by the dedication, commitment and skill of those involved. They are truly inspirational to me, but most importantly to the younger generations. They are demonstrating through their success the results of hard work, dedication and application.

Oh that our footballers take note - they have all the advantages on the pitch and off yet still fail to achieve on the pitch and often fail in life off the pitch.

Footballers take note, apply yourselves as the British Olympic team has done and in addition to your material wealth enjoy the adoration not cynicism of the nation!

Great post mate. Would be interesting to see what athletes earn...

Spot on this.

You should go the meets they do across the country. I've been to a couple in Manchester and they do them at Wavertree every now and then.

Met Kelly Holmes at my first. Met Dai Greene to the Welsh melt.

The GB women's volleyball team had to go abroad to work and do all sorts of charity events to pay for the privilege of representing us at our own Olympics. They did a 25K marathon I think.

This says everything I personally think - football has gone now in my estimation it's a dead sport. I have nothing but total admiration to every Olympian (football players and equestrian horse people excluded) who have given everything.

The difference seems to be that Athletes, rowers, cyclists etc love their sport and will do anything to be the very best at that chosen sport. Footballers on the other hand seem to do the minimum required on the pitch in order to keep receiving their pay cheques.

It's a question of values, material wealth or the respect and adoration of the nation plus just as important self-respect - all of those athletes can look in the mirror in the morning and say I gave my best - how many footballers can do the same?

People will want to be footballers for what they receive.

People will want to be Olympians for what they achieve.
