The Oldies Thread

Pretty sure that 'normal' isn't the correct word, but yes that is how it was.
For the second half of the fourth year our maths teacher used to call me and two other lads to the front of the class to be caned at the start of each maths lesson.
"That's BEFORE you do anything. Now sit down."
When I was no more than 10 we had a teacher whose choice of punishment was a wooden rule which he whacked onto your knuckles using the edge as the point of contact. Mr Adams...We were 10...top bloke eh?

Still got a stack and a proper walkman all stashed away, for god knows what reason...
They were good for recording family stuff for posterity. Lot of "absent friends" on there.

So far I haven't mastered the art of transferring them onto something more permanent although I got a machine from mail order which promised me it would be child's play.
Trouble is it wasn't oldie's play.

I have tickets for OMD's 40th anniversary tour. 40 years!!! I think I was there almost at the beginning- saw them for the first time at Liverpool university Fresher's Ball, possibly 1979 or 1980. Decided to watch them on their ( and mine) home turf rather than up here. So I'll be at The Empire on Nov 4th.

Similarly my daughter ( aged 21) came home from work and said "Hey Mum, the Aaah Vienna people are touring. My boss is going" Tickets now purchased for Midge Ure!

Saw Midge about 5 months ago. He still does a great show.

.....that Ultravox ‘Vienna’ Record is so nostalgic. Reminds me to put it on my playlist.

My daughter’s is 34 this week, so booked to see The Eagles at Echo Arena in June. Frightening where the years go but the concert should be a good singalong.

How old do you have to be to post in this thread? Because I'm 35, but the fact my favourite 90s bands are doing reunion / 20th anniversary tours makes me feel old.

You're as old as you feel, which for me, is all of the time.
I think a rule of thumb is when you get those free 'gadget' magazines and adverts that if you see something you, even momentarily, think is practical, then that's it, you're at the top of the hill looking down a very steep slope.
If you buy the combined step ladder & wheelbarrow you're actually on your way to dignitas ;)
