The Oldies Thread

Will £9.90 be the new £9.99 or will £10 be the new £9.99?

If what's happened here is any indication, it'll be the 10 quid. Canada dropped the penny, so to speak, when we stopped making them in 2013, though they still remain legal tender. However, prices here are rounded up or down to the nearer five cents if you're paying in cash. So something that costs $5.02 is only $5, while $5.03 is now $5.05.

Nothing costs £5.02 or £5.03 here.

Anyone else recall the times that the alehouse would close between 3-00pm to 5-00pm?

Happy memories of the tax rebate money in the pocket, and those 'illegal' drinking clubs around Mathew Street.

Fantastic places, frequented by the criminal demi-monde, Communist dockers, and 'faded' theatrical ladies in purple hair, drinking gin, and exclaiming 'cheers me dears'.

Alway's seemed to get seated to a fantastic Toffee, and giving the Koppites loads.

A real frisson of danger and excitement, but the 'bezzies' would occasionally pop their heads in for a sneaky pint.

Halcyon days indeed.

A few pubs in and off Dale Street had lock ins ; happy times when I could drink a vat full.:(

There's a great fuss been made about the black cat who appeared on the pitch the other day.
Back in the sixties and seventies I seem to remember frequent invasions by four-legged friends.
Nothing enlivened a dull rain-sodden evening more than the sight of a smart Jack Russell getting after the ball and eluding the flailing arms of players and police to ironic cheers from the terrace.

I suppose our stadia are sealed tight against non-paying customers now.
Fair play to the mog for bringing the past to life.
