The Oldies Thread

Oldies will like the new Cafe 38 at the Royal Court Theater.

£4-00 for a nice sarnie and a pot of tea.

Lovely art- deco surroundings, and Sinatra in the background.

You can watch the population of Liverpool pass by as well.

Channel 61 on Freeview . Watched the New Avengers last night . John Steed , Mike Gambit . Did Purdey have a forename mentioned . Didn’t say in the credits
I'm sure she had a dotty old aunt who featured in one of the episodes. If not then she should have had.
I'd give folding money to see the reaction of Gambit or Steed when auntie calls her Gwendolin!

Back in the 1930's my Dad (a pianist) played at Reece's restaurant, Lewis's restaurant and the Royal Court Theatre. During the blitz he was a fireman and used to claim that he was the only person who played piano at Lewis's and then squirted a hosepipe on it when it was bombed and burned out. After the war he had a sextet and played at the Ocean Club in Liverpool. He did a lot of broadcasts for the BBC from 1947 to early 1950's. If you key 'Charles Henesy sextet' into Youtube there is a recording of some of his broadcasts.

Does anyone remember a record from the 60's about Everton and Liverpool called 'roarin and scorin' by the Konda group to the tune of the beach boys Barbara Anne?

To cut a long story short (No I haven't lost my mind), I met a guy on the golf course up here in Scotland who featured as the narrator on the the single, he is a daft Evertonian and an extremely sprightly and effervescent seventy five year old, played me off the course as well, small world indeed.

Only whispering grass......

Still have recordings,I think. They were an American vocal group who toured Britain once, in the 1950s. Sounded a bit like an early version of THe Platters.
The southlanders were a British vocal group with a slightly similar style, who toured theatres in the late 50s. One of the members was Gary Wilmots father, but that's only relevant if you've heard of Gary Wilmot!.
