The Oldies Thread

Does anyone remember a record from the 60's about Everton and Liverpool called 'roarin and scorin' by the Konda group to the tune of the beach boys Barbara Anne?

To cut a long story short (No I haven't lost my mind), I met a guy on the golf course up here in Scotland who featured as the narrator on the the single, he is a daft Evertonian and an extremely sprightly and effervescent seventy five year old, played me off the course as well, small world indeed.

...every Saturday of my life I get up at 6am, get my Racing Post, write out my bets and put them on at 9am taking the early prices. I then have proper Manx kippers (none of that boil in the bag or filleted stuff) before going the pub at lunchtime for a bucket full of Guinness with my old footy playing mates.

Weird how much of a routine we get in.

It’s the routine that keeps you going and this sounds like a very fine Saturday routine, apart from getting up at 6am....

I recall when I was up and down the motorways in the seventies, seeing blokes driving just the chassis of a bus, no cab or anything open to whatever the elements threw at them.
They all looked the size of the Michelin man with all the layers of clothes they would have had to wear, and crash helmets and goggles.
Absolutely no surprise that the practice seems to be history now. I wonder if they were rewarded accordingly.

Yes, I remember that. Always turned the heater up a notch when I saw one of those.
