The Oldies Musical Thread

There are a few bands that I'd consider legends who my dad loves and got me into. I always remember listening to them on a cd in his car was I was younger and I was hooked! I very rarely listen to music produced anytime after 1980 these days.

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Cream
Deep Purple
Yardbirds
Led Zeppelin
Doobie Brothers
Procul Harum
The Eagles
Bob Dylan
The Rolling Stones

Bear in mind I'm 30 years of age...

Welcome to the oldies thread

Ace thread.

Remember ages ago seeing The Stray Cats friday, Don McLean saturday, then Motorhead on sunday, all in Bristol.

Wembley in 1980 something. UB40, Santana, Nick Lowe & Dylan. Clapton & Carlos Santana jammed with Dylan & Chrisis Hynde.

AC/DC. 1981. Johnsons first ever UK gig on the Back in Black tour. Mucked up the words to Let there be Rock!

Saw Page & Plant on some Zep reform thing in the mid 80s. Was a bit meh though.

saw bob dylan in the bleedin' awful category
An old mate of mine was a massive Dylan fan and he said the same but that he'd seen both sides over the years. One time he walked off after a couple of songs and other times it was mindblowingly brilliant.

I'm the youngest of 6 so grew up on my older siblings' tastes, which were, fortunately, rather splendid.

Beatles, stones, Small Faces, Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills and Nash (and Young), Canned Heat, Sly and The Family Stone, Hendrix, Steevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Bowie, Roxy Music (with Eno).

Discovered the likes of Costello, XTC, The Jam, The Clash, Ian Dury, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Beat, The Specials and Squeeze for myself (through friends).

Then later on heard Weather Report and got bang into Jazz.

My era that as well mate. Lob in The Stranglers as well. So underrated imo.

I seen Van Morrison and Bob Dylan play the same stage. I seen the Counting Crows play in the Ulster Hall, it is a small venue, holds about 2000, Never heard them singing, everybody in the audience knew all the songs and they sung along.Biggest karaoke night I ever been to.

My dads collection consisted of , mainly, Country and Western. Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell etc. A few other records by the likes of Tony Bennett .
The first band I REALLY got into was ELO. Listening to the top 40 upstairs on an old radio . Light-up , with the different stations on the front. Just turn the dial to BBC Radio and find it. The sound of the opening to Mr Blue Sky coming through the old speakers . Haven't heard it like that since .

ELO were sound. The first band I got into were Wings ffs. Bought Mull of Kintyre, (who didnt), and the B side was a song called Girlschool. Really quite a rocky track, so I bought Venus & Mars, and really liked it. Thankfully, AC/DC and the bands above rescued me though.

Girls School by Wings is boss. Better than the other side imo. We had a proper Hi-Fi by then . Clear plastic hinged lid. Until then we had one of those record players that looked like a suitcase . Good sound, though

They were ace those record players. You could put like about 10 singles in a pile and they would play one by one!
