Is there a chance that heat map suggests they weren't playing 4-3-3 with a holding midfielder? The number of people who seem to think the line-up graphic shown on TV is some kind of set in stone officially announced formation and aren't fluid depending on circumstance is baffling.

It very well could be. I wasn’t watching so closely so I don’t really know here.

For the record I mostly made this thread as a troll type of deal. But the one thing that is interesting about the whole heatmap concept is it allows you to attempt to figure out what a player was meant to do in a game more so than a formation graphic can. And yeah in this case it is interesting to try and figure what exactly they had in mind in midfield because it definitely wasn’t conventional and also didn’t really work.
