The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Ipswich and Leicester.
Spurs and Brentford are our rivals now not the other 2.
Makes me laugh people thinking theyll get near 35 points. They wont even reach 30.

I don't think they will and we are safe, well maybe 95% of me.

Cliché time - Football is a funny old game and there is a part of me that just does not want to give any team in the bottom 3 any hope, regardless of how small it is. We showed what we can do last season in the face of adversity, everybody writing us off with the points deductions.

So, until it is 100% confirmed I am still that 5% wary of what football can do to kick us in the teeth.

He clearly left for a variety of reasons, but the idea that Dyche was definitely taking us down is for the birds.

He’d have basically had to lose all 6 of the games Moyes has managed so far, and even then we’d still be ahead of Ipswich. People seem to have forgotten that before the losses to two form teams in Forest and Bournemouth (look how others have fared at Bournemouth this season) we had taken 6 points from 4 games v Wolves Arsenal City Chelsea. Our goal difference was superior to the sides at the bottom, clean sheets better, defence better.

Quite simply we made a horrendous start, got edged in some games we shouldn’t (Southampton, Brentford), and had some bad injuries down the spine of the team (Branthwaite Garner McNeil) , and that put us closer than was comfortable to the relegation zone.

But no way we were going down. The bottom 3 are trash. Even this Wolves team that is absolutely terrible is probably going to stay up,

That doesn’t mean that changing the manager wasn’t the right thing to do. As soon as the owners changed then the opportunity to get a better manager was rightfully taken. But people claiming we were definitely going down just aren’t reading the trends, we weren’t going down this season.
There's having your head in the sand and then there's this

Brentford totally flatter to deceive. Everybody raves about what a great team they’ve got but they’re always hanging around lower mid table and we’ve always had a few home win’s against them lately.

I'm so glad we didn't wait to find out if your theory would've worked out.

Really couldn't care less 🤷‍♂️
The last few years have been horrible, panicking about the results of games that don't involve us.
OUR results are all that matters to me now, the rest are mint imperial.

Sort of agree - but now I'm starting the enjoy watching more football again.

Spurs are in a false position, I think they'll finish above us. Brentford and Palace are catchable if we keep up the good form.

Would be good / funny if we finish above Utd after all our drama.

Hope Ipswich and Leicester get draws at best.

I think the bottom three as is will go down as Leicester can’t defend, Ipswich don’t have enough quality and the Saints are already toast.

They will need something special and us to collapse completely in the next two months just to catch up.

But isn’t it sad that the three promoted teams are the ones going down for two season in a row ?

Just glad it’s not us

I'd say there's a fair chance that even the 30 points we are on now is enough for safety. However i would imagine it might be just over that. Something like 34 could be the magic number this season. 13 games to get 4 points seems pretty doable. Would take all kinds of records for that to not happen.
We'd have to get Dyche back.

It might not be like that next year. For sure on paper it could be the easiest year to stay in the pl with probably a record of low points required. Next year, with teams like Leeds and possibly Sunderland, it might be a tougher season. Hopefully by then we will have a much stronger squad as we are probably in the best position from a psr perspective than many other teams in the pl.

17 points from 19 games is not a point a game. We were on track for 34 points, we’re now on track for 45. We were also scoring under a goal per game and are now averaging 2 goals per game. You are insane or pig headedly stubborn if you’re incapable of acknowledging that this manager has improved us overnight from walking through the door.
He usually ignores the first 4 games because we lost them and talks about Dyche getting 17 points or 3 wins from 15 games.

Happy with whatever result tonight is all about us now reacting and getting the wins.i am the same looking at teams below wanting them to get beat but also we do have a chance to get higher. Is a great chance saturday to really show thia team wants to finish the season strong
