The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

You look at the league at the moment. Let’s take eternal hope that Moyes can turn us back to his old Everton and we are back fighting for Europe, then who else look possible for the drop other than those three that have come up?

Wolves unless they invest will probably be in the mix, but most of rest are well clear of 40 points already. You’ve got to assume United and Spurs won’t be as awful, so that leaves maybe West Ham and possibly Brentford who I could see slowly slipping down the league next season. Unless those promoted clubs do a Forrest and overspend on a shed load of players (and that almost failed for Forrest at first) it’s a struggle to see how we won’t see the same as this season.

Maybe one of them will be stupid enough to appoint Van Nistelrooy, Steve Cooper or Juric. The promoted clubs need to make the right calls and hope someone else falls off like Leicester and Southampton did a couple of years ago appointing awful managers (and did again this year). Wolves were having a shocker of a season but then Pereira has come in and worked wonders.

Plus if the likes of Forest or Bournemouth get into Europe they'd struggle with the extra games.

Nah there’s about 10 teams who throretically could find themselves in trouble. It’s really easy to do when you’re not very good, a bad run of results and confidence disappears, managers get sacked etc. Half the league are only ever a bad month away from a relegation battle if the bottom 3 are capable of getting over 30 points.

Who'd have thought that after we played 4 of the top 5, we would still be above both Utd & Spuds? 😂
They’ve been so bad. West Ham even moreso.

It reminds me of when we were utterly turgid but just wouldn’t fall into the relegation zone because the bottom 3 were consistently worse than us.

Bar Wolves, it’s now the bottom 7 that are consistently terrible.

Burnley and Leeds are worse then when they came up last time and I don’t think any of the teams in the Play offs will stay up, think it will be 3 that come up go down, the gap’s getting bigger and P&S are making sure of it

Think it's disappointing that promoted sides go straight down (although that's saved us for the last couple of seasons).

You're right about the gap, not many who cone up can push on

If United drop another shed load of money on bad players they may realistically be in the scrap next year.

But it’ll surely be the three teams coming up that go right back down. This year’s “battle” was never even close in the end.

21-22

1 city 93
2 rs 92
3 chelsea 74
4 spurs 71
5 arsenal 69

city, rs, arsenal all three seasons. BUT, spurs twice, man utd once, newcastle once, villa once, chelsea once. Maybe this season its notts forest with their first.

To be fair, arsenal aren't nailed on for second place yet this season, and the CL places are being contested to 7th place (villa 57 points)( notts forest 3rd place 60 points).

These last 5 games for these 5 or 6 clubs will be pretty good entertainment, I suppose for a change the last day stuff won't be the relegation places but how the euro berths are won and lost.

It seems like to stay up and prosper you need to turn over a large part of the team that got you promoted and there can be a bit too much sentimentality for the guys that got you there.

I don't think Burnley are worse than last time tho. They seem to have a much better defence, which was one of the reasons they went back down. Conceding only 15 goals in 44 matches so far this season is pretty impressive. I think they will be harder to beat next season, but whether they can score the required amount of goals is another thing.

When was the relegation picture last decided this early? because let's face it.. Ipswich are gone as well.

Burnley, Leeds & possibly Sheff United back in the Prem next season to start the merry-go-round over again. YAWN.

Leeds have better financial backing. Will need 6 or 7 players. Gap is massive between top of championship and bottom half of prem. It's upto the 49ers how much they can use under FFP rules.

Might hqve better financial backing but well so should the rest of the league. Would expect us and wolves to up at the top of the list bringing players in this window. Just think when you look at there team is still alot of unproven players at this level.

Just dont see alot of quality to get the goals, is very hard just to have a good defence and stay up now as it has shown with us. I would be shocked if any of the three promoted teams stay up next season
