The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Give it up man, Leicester and Ipswich are on 17 points with goal differences of over -30. That’s the same points tally we were on 8 games ago. I know there’s a few who might have been dreaming of losing 8 in a row under Dyche to make it 10 losses on the spin but that would never ever have happened. I know it’s disappointing to some but we were never ever going down this season. We wouldn’t be as many clear but the likelihood is that we’d have probably been somewhere close to a point per game, that’s still 10 clear.

As it is we have a better manager now rather than having to wait until the end of the season so that’s good but there really is some nonsense being written here. Even Moyes has been saying how good the fundamentals were he was left, the resilience in the squad, the clean sheets record. We weren’t going down.
Not going down is not the pre requisite of this club. The bottom 3 being worse than ever should not be a barometer to measure the success of our manager. You know that I'm glad for the job Dyche did last season, but this wasn't good enough, and he was right to quit as it has clearly shown he was incapable of doing better than running amongst the worst of the division.

Difference between interested and ‘looking forward’. I know you like to hang on to former managers for a long long time though so each to their own.

Not really in this context, it’s just a different bit of language used. I know when you’re really struggling for anything to argue back with, you default to homing in on a single word and it’s definition and use. But yeah I will be following his exploits for entertainment and amusement purposes.

Historically no, but it literally was this season. Whether people are disappointed that it was is another question but getting to the new stadium as a PL team was literally the prerequisite for this season.

But those goals can change can't they? If we're acknowledging how awful the bottom 3 are, and that we were never ever going to get relegated, surely it's time to reset a new target. Survival was absolute my #1 hope this season, but apparently we are more than capable of that, and it's not hindsight, it's the ability to progress.
