Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

Aside from the obvious lack of scruples from Sugar (which is perhaps not that surprising), does it not worry anyone on the Labour bench that people who might otherwise have opposed the Tories are jumping in with a turd like Johnson because they fear Corbyn would be even worse? I sadly suspect hardliners will take that as a badge of honour, but still..

Not sure that saying "they fear Corbyn would be even worse" is what they fear tbh.

What they fear is being affected by a government (and this would be any government, not just one led by Corbyn or someone near him) which would look to improve the lives of those who have lost out these past 30-40 years, which would inevitably result in either a slowdown of their decades-long economic growth or more likely some contraction of it. These are people who think they'll lose out, hence the vehemence

Look at how animated they've got over Brexit for example, which will considerably effect everyone negatively but will actually effect them in ways that other things that they comparatively didn't give two figs about - benefit freezes, UC, the bedroom tax, gig work and the rest - never did. Look at what happens when someone proposes genuine social housing in an area of London for example - you'll get a flood of complaints from people, often people who describe themselves as liberal and socially aware, who have invested fortunes nearby who want to know why someone is getting something for less.

Or look at Uber, which everyone seems to rave about even though the business model is exploitative of Uber's own drivers, never mind what it does to "normal" minicabs and the black cab drivers. All people care about is the convienience and the fact that its cheaper for them, and if you take it away (ie: make Uber give its drivers actual rights) they fume about it.

The best example though is the governance of the City, and associated topics like CEO pay and performance. It should be obvious to anyone that spends even a five minute look at how the Square Mile works that it is awash with dubious cash and that our firms are run by people who rarely deserve the sums they get. Propose you will do anything whatsoever to actually deal with that and you will be called a communist.

I'm heading out to meet the missus from work so apologies for only addressing one point, but lumping all of the various forms of 'gig' work into one homogeneous blob is hardly very helpful, as it really isn't. For instance, it's well researched that many Uber drivers find the work very enjoyable, despite Uber as a company being generally rubbish, and the flexible working style suits them. If people have families etc. then it's less so, but that's no different to being a bog standard cabbie, which has similarly uncertain income and a similar lack of welfare support. There's a reason why taxi drivers often take sickness insurance, because the government don't provide any more help to them (or other freelance workers) than they do to Uber drivers.

There is a lot (ok, a bit) of work being done by people like the RSA to guide policy that better reflects these ways of working as the social model as it stands was born in an industrial age that is not really relevant any more, but whilst the Tories have been preoccupied with Brexit and done very little, I'm not sure Labour would have done much more, as their main policy seems to be the wholly unrealistic one of 'banning' gig work. As me and many in my line of work are essentially gig workers, it's one for the headlines rather than implementation, which sadly is something that appears to fit a lot of Corbyn's policies.

use the tree root killer I recommended if the Glyphosate is not working? - Brexit will happen on halloween they have made a futuristic game of it already.......

Havnt even started yet mate. No point.

Same with the bamboo.

I wouldn’t mind if you had a reason to dislike him that isn’t another sound bite you’ve heard
Quite a number of reasons totally confirmed my suspicions when I read Tom Bowers book....
