His run of films from This is Spinal Tap up to (and including) A Few Good Men is incredible, the sort of thing that if it happened now would probably elevate a director to semi-divine status. Yes what followed wasn't up to that standard, but very few films from anyone were.
It is a terrible loss for his family and filmmaking in general, RIP to him and his wife.
