It sounds like they are going to raise the bar for overturning a handball on VAR. Hopefully far fewer handball penalties going forward. They are a huge punishment for what is normally a minor offence.
But what they also are is a disincentive for playing outrageously deep and defensive and it's a shame that people managed to bitch that away in about 3 weeks. Would have been a positive once players figured it out a bit. Now we are right back to trying to figure out if someone meant it.It sounds like they are going to raise the bar for overturning a handball on VAR. Most of those weren't marginal under the new laws. The United one vs Brighton and the Dier one are both nailed on pens. In fact best I can tell the only 50/50 one was probably the one we got. The rest were bad misses by the on field ref if again you are following the new law.I don't like VAR interfering in marginal decisions, especially subjective handball calls. The less VAR we have in the game the better.
Is that actually a good thing? Just having refs make massive screw ups that alter games and seasons with no possibility of fixing it? I know people will say that's how it was always done but that doesn't make it right or good.An article in the Telegraph Sport today, clearly points the finger at retired referee David Elleray. His organisation Ifab were awarded control of the laws of football by FIFA at the start of the 2016/17 season. Since then, they have overseen 178 law changes.
It does seem that Elleray needs to be seen to be doing something. All these changes, exacerbated by VAR, are destroying the game. Apparently, Elleray has already issued 11 rewrites of the VAR protocol. The sooner we get rid of VAR and people meddling in the rules, then maybe we can get back to football as we knew it.
Well, there are VAR controversies nearly every week. Don't remember there were that many 'massive screw ups' in the past. Maybe 2 or 3 a season, if that.Is that actually a good thing? Personally I think VAR has done well this season so far.
2 or 3 a season? We've had 2 or 3 go against us in a single derby...Well, there are VAR controversies nearly every week. Don't remember there were that many 'massive screw ups' in the past. Maybe 2 or 3 a season, if that.
