I have to be honest: I did not want City to win that game today. I acted like I did ... but I really didn't. I do not like City. I hate the RS and all but ... cheering for City? I wanted a tie ... when the RS won I felt a bit sick at the end ... and I had to mute the TV at one point (you know when) ... but all in all it doesn't really anger me as much as I would have thought it would.
I obviously can't cheer for the RS ... but I can't bring myself to cheer for City or Chelsea and in a way it's like not cheering for that lot's title race opponents seems like a tacit endorsement of the RS and makes me feel ill. This is really not a good situation.
I'll be furious if they win the league and we miss out on fourth ... that would be a nightmare. But us fourth and they win the title? I know they'll be horrendous to deal with but it just doesn't upset me as much as it "should" on paper.
If they can win the title ... the team we finished above the last two years, a team with more money than us but not Man City more money ... if they could win the title ... it kind of makes it seem like we could too right? Next year is our year and all. Merseyside?!?!?!?
I don't know ... the first insufferable RS I bump into might change my mind but right now ... I really can't cheer for City or Chelsea and what they represent about football.
But how can I not want City or Chelsea to win? (Aside from the 0.001% chance we have of winning the league of course.)
If they win though ... the bantz ... ::shudder::. ... and the media? Ugh. It will be pretty hideous.
The only conclusion I have come to is that we *have* to get fourth. I have heard people say fifth and a record points total in Bobby's first year would be great and they'd be happy with that. It would ... that is undeniably true ... but it's also somehow both true and wrong. We *have* to get fourth or this will just be untenable.
If we get fourth I don't think I care who wins the title ... and that's kind of bizarre considering what might happen.
