I've read the situation with the finger today and seen the photos. Are you using an antiseptic cream? It will almost certainly turn red and become tender, there's not a lot you can do about that but as long as its not oozing green pus I'd grin and bear it. Antiseptic cream under whatever dressing you're using wouldn't go amiss.

No ooze or pus or anything and red and tender is a good way to describe it mate. Don't have any antiseptic cream. What's a good one to get mate?

Mayonnaise does a similar job mate, apply directly to the finger then bandage the wound again.
