It's the snooker tonight, so here's a themed Fact Hunt;

The word ‘snooker’ was originally military slang for raw, inexperienced army recruits. This was why Neville Chamberlain (not that one, the other one) once called an opponent ‘a regular snooker’ for missing an easy shot. The word stuck, and was soon taken on as the name of the game.

When Joe Davis became World Snooker Champion in 1927 the prize money was just over £6.

Snooker balls were once made from ivory, then a substance made from crushed cow shin bones. Currently balls material is known as Aramith, which are completely synthetic.
