To be honest, I'm not sure the media has ever done that. They look for stories in the here and now, and quickly move on to others. They look to engage the heart of the reader, not their mind.

There's some truth in that, not too sure about the heart analogy, more like exciting fear (as you are aware) and the 'stomach' .

The latest polls have the tories at 42% Labour 39%.
Surely that's a worrying sign as the tories have been at war with themselves for months, you would expect any party with serious designs on power to be ahead at this point, or asking why they aren't seen as electable.

State of the parties in the Opinion Polls
ICM, conducted for the Guardian newspaper, together with the percentage of votes cast for each party at the 2010 general election, 2015 general election and 2017 general election. Survey method details, under revision following the last general election and EU referendum, are available from ICM’s website.

Every Labour Government since the war has screwed the economy. The people who suffer most as a result are the people who are not in a 'decent' position.

It’s a masochistic tendency of Labour voters. They are happy to put one over the Tories, as their new Labour Government wrecks the economy, then blame the Tories for having to come in and sort it out yet again.......

Aah yes, it were the post-war Labour government that took down the economy; literally nothing to do with the fact that we just came out of the most expensive war ever.

It was also the Labour government during the 1970s who crashed the economy; nothing to do with the retaliation of the Yom Kippur war, in which oil producing governments tripled the price of oil overnight.

It was also the last Labour government, during the noughties who crashed the economy; nothing to do with the global financial crisis.

That's kind of it isn't it? Governments in general don't have that big an impact on things, yet are happy to take the credit when things go well and pass the buck when things don't.

Number_25, will grant you your first point. The Attlee government inherited a virtually bankrupt country. Did well under the circumstances. Tories were lucky to get in just as things were improving. As for the 70's, Labour just made a difficult situation worse. Same with Gordon Brown, the worst Chancellor of the Exchequer in living memory. His 'light touch' regulations on the Banks lit the blue touchpaper. Not to mention his selling a chunk of our gold reserves at the bottom of the market and destroying final salary pension schemes (except for MP's, including his own, and Civil Servants.)

Post war, we were bankrupt, no ones fault except the Germans.

The 70’s was a shambles with Labour and Union power wrecking the economy and driving inflation through the roof.

Gordon Brown wrecked pensions and technology companies and unleashed Government borrowing on a scale not seen since the war. He did however keep us out of the Euro, thank god, as his mate Blair would have signed us up in a flash.

I wonder what Corbyn would do ?........get the printing machines ready.......

I have a theory.

You're actually some sort of Artificial Neural Network that has been trained using 30 years of clippings from our nations gutter press. The results are mightily impressive, your creator should be proud.

I’ll bet that I do more each week for homeless people and those that require help than you have done in your life. You seem to think that those who believe in growing the economy, making people richer, managing an economy correctly, are barsteward Tories just in it for themselves. Well guess what my friend, life is tough, money is tight and it’s only through generating more money that the really poor can be helped. That and helping them to stand up and look after themselves. So before you get on your bleeding moral high horse, just remember you are not the only one who cares. And in your own vernacular, feck off.......

Back to believing polls, never ends well for the Tories, there are online Tories only you know, make of this what you will. :D
