Big well done to the forensic adults who are now in the room, giving the worst government in history – who refuse to feeds kid, might I add – ammo to attack Labour with while the infighting starts

The Tory murderers cant believe their luck: on the ropes over industrial scale daily death tolls, in-fighting over school meals, sinking in their EU mess...then Starmer hands them a LP civil war to get out of jail with. They and their media will be ushing this for weeks and the country will be sinking into a plague.

They certainly fear him more than Corbyn, for no other reason than he is more electable. The Tories only care about winning.

They're going to continue to make a balls of COVID, ignore starving children, and not deliver on any of their Brexit promises

They don't fear him and have no need to. Corbyn at least had them on their toes with the May election.

Agree with the first line - but the second line makes no sense. They’re not going to fear somebody who can potentially win an election? What?

I’m pretty sure most Tories would rank Corbyn higher than Churchill in their all-time Conservative heroes. Few have done more to further their cause.

Sir Haircut handed them a win when abstaining on the Spycops bill and his inability to deal with transphobia from people like Duffield

He continues with own goal after own goal

I’m not sure we can go back to the may election , the most recent one was a disaster...also polls are the closest they have been ina long time...and Starmer has decent approval ratings

Starmer's not going to beat them

He and the PLP will run the same playbook they tried with Miliband – too similar policies to the Tories that drive away voters who want an alternative

What have they got to fear? They're ahead in the polls when everyone said Starmer would be 20 points ahead

They don't fear him, at all

I think he does worry them. Especially with how he's performed against Johnson

He's electable and Corbyn wasn't. People don't like to hear it, but Corbyn just didn't appeal to enough voters and also solidified the centre right vote behind the tories. Labour need to win back large parts of England to get back into power. They aren't winning back those 40 odd seats lost to the SNP so they need gains in the Midlands and south of England.

No, but please name me another mainstream political party conference, where a Jewish member needed police protection?

Is this not the worst form of identity politics though? People generally didn't like her because she was not a particularly good local MP, and people doubted her overall commitment, as seen by her decision to go and stand for the Liberal Democrats.

If you dislike someone who is Jewish, it does not automatically mean you dislike them because they are Jewish. Or black. Or Asian or any other race for that matter.

It goes without saying of course, that she should not be threatened or racially abused. But being critical is part of politics.

So how come Blair is the only Labour leader to win a workable majority since 1966?

It may not be comfortable or acceptable to some, but Labour win when they get soft-conservative voters to vote for them. At some point a political party has to decide whether it’s more important to win, or be ideologically pure.

Has he though? His opposition has fundamentally shifted the debate and spectrum far to the left, to the point that (and I quite Peston here) Johnson has gone more Castro than Castro in order to be seen as in touch with the zeitgeist.

He also won millions of votes more than Brown and Miliband and rebuilt the electoral base of Labour. While they didn't fear his ability to win elections, in terms of his shifting of the debate, they were very frustrated.
