It's insane

Utterly. It's not like the £30,000 or whatever people spend per year on private schooling will go into the local public school, and in reality the parents will just spend the £30,000 on private tutors, overseas trips, unpaid internships and the various other things that help give wealthier people a leg up.

I don´t think we should be fine with the disparity in children´s chances from the moment they leave the womb. If we don´t want to abolish private schools (which I genuinely think would help) we should be looking to fund and create a truly world class education system that rivals the private sector.

Alas, that would mean people who send their children to private schools giving more in tax so that´s a nonstarter as well.

Look, think logically. The world exists where some people earn more than others. The only way to have 'equality' would be to have nobody earn more than anyone else.

That would be communism.

It's a ridiculous suggestion and stems from loathing and jealousy rather than a genuine attempt to be a force for good. Again, it's ideology over pragmatism. As Bruce says, all that would happen is the better off would use that money to spend on giving a 'leg up' in different ways, whilst the school system gets overloaded by more pupils attending state schools. Thus achieving absolutely nothing.

But inequality continues to grow at a rapid level. It´s not sustainable or healthy for our society to be going down this path. Things are never going to be perfect, at least in our life time, but we can do better than we currently are.

That´s the percentage of privately educated folk taking up these positions. We shouldn´t be comfortable with that.

And it will be even worse when labour lose again

Yes, and I've acknowledged that the wealth gap is insane and something needs to be done about it.

But the key is doing it... you know... rationally, and not with extreme ideological nonsense that makes the general electorate see you as a madman.

Instead, Labour are throwing ludicrous policies around like they're the Raving Loony Monster Party; anything to appease ideology, absolutely nothing to seriously win an election.

What's the point of being ideologically 'pure' if you're never going to be in power to make real change?

And it will be even worse when labour lose again

Exactly ^

If we lose, then so be it. We´re putting forward policies we believe in, if people don´t like it then that´s democracy. We tried the middle of the road approach with Miliband, called for austerity and still got pasted at the polls.

Why would someone on a low wage/struggling on benefits think this was a policy that would help them?

A more sensible policy would have been an increased tax on sending a kid to private school, which would directly fund state education.

But no, because in the minds of Momentum, such a policy would mean endorsing the existence of private schools in the first place and they can't be having any of that...

Okay, what other policies do you not like?

Okay, what other policies do you not like?

I'm not going through the entire 2017 manifesto and his mad promises in the leadership race just to have you tell me they're great really. I honestly can't be arsed mate.

Let's just say promising £500bn in additional spending and costing it through "a better economy" and "the rich paying more" is the overarching nonsense.
