To be honest, I've never been his biggest fan, as his tackling and positional sense isn't the best (although that may have improved during his spell in Spain). He also isn't the fastest player around. He's a strong header though and an excellent passer of the ball. Hope he'll turn out to be a great signing for us, but I still hold my reservations over him.

Onder druk van Atlético Madrid stemde John Heitinga toch in met een vertrek uit Spanje. Everton is de nieuwe club van de Oranje-international.

De 25-jarige Heitinga gaat voor vijf jaar tekenen bij The Toffees. 'Ongelooflijk, gisteren leek het nog afgeblazen, maar vanochtend was alles compleet', zei de verdediger tegen De Telegraaf.

Heitinga gaf maandag bij Voetbal International aan bij Atlético Madrid te willen blijven. Maar de Spaanse club vond de transfersom van zes miljoen euro die Everton bood erg aantrekkelijk. 'Uit de berichtgeving van de voorbije periode blijkt dat Atlético Madrid geld nodig heeft', zei Heitinga.

De verdediger is mede onder druk van Atlético Madrid van gedachten veranderd. In plaats van zich te melden voor het Nederlands elftal was Heitinga op weg naar Goodison Park om de transfer naar Everton af te ronden. De oud-Ajacied wacht onder meer een medische keuring.

Having been put under pressure by Atletico Madrid, Heitinga agreed to leave the Spanish club and join Everton.

The 25-year old Heitinga will sign a 5 year deal for the Toffees. "Unbelievable, yesterday it seemed that the deal was off, but this morning everything was in place", according to the Dutch international.

Heitinga said on Moday, that he wanted to stay at Atletico, but Madrid was eager to cash in on him. There have been a few stories as of lately, claiming the Madrid based club, is in need of money.

So, under pressure from his club, Heitinga travelled to Goodison Park, instead of joining up with the Dutch squad. He'll have to undergo a medical there.

Sorry to dissapoint, but he isn't exactly the speedy, overlapping full back who gets crosses in from the by-line on every occasion. Not saying he can't cross at all. Will be good at free kicks an putting balls into the box though.

Which is why I'd think we'd play him at CB.
