Why are so many English people supporting Argentina? I don't really understand it. Argentina actively claim and dispute the Falklands Islands as their own and still to this day, they are adamant they will get Falklands back.

Some people are not remotely bothered about such things because why would they be?

France remind me of old-school German sides - plenty of brilliant players, tremendous mental strength, and...just about doing enough to get through the key games. Argentina have been more visceral, more emotional, and, frankly, more entertaining. I wouldn't really call the final - but I'm glad Messi will have to earn it. A wonderful, glorious player - but World Cups need to be earned. Let's not have a coronation. Let's see him win it against the toughest possible opposition. Should be compelling.

I'm torn really. Argentina are one of the football nations I like (Germany and Uruguay the other two). But I'm not fussy about them winning because of that pint-sized tax dodging billionaire. How any one could celebarate that social deviant is beyond me.

As to the game - Messi is the sentimental choice, but there are just too many variables to call it.
After 90 mins* ** it could be 0-0 or 4-3 calling at all stations on the way.

*extra time is a whole different beast.

Ultimately the people who live on those islands deserve the right to determine their future - but you surely can't be upset that Argentina holds an opinion.

Why shouldn't they think islands 300 miles from their coast have more right to be part of their territory than a nation almost 8,000 miles away?

Similarly, I've no issue with the French thinking Jersey and Guernsey ought to be French-dependent rather than UK-dependent.

France and Scotland have the entente cordiale, they have the absolute best national anthem, their women are sexy as hell and it will shut up the Messi fanboys.

Argentina have the loudest fans I have ever heard, they also seem to like Scotland even though we sent them packing from the Falklands, and Diego did that handball thing.

Hope they both win
