The facts dont support the notion we've slipped away from the top 6

It's not about yesterday's (and even the opening day's) result and getting ahead of myself. It's looking at the whole of the 20 games that's elapsed since New Years Day.

It's not overstating the case to point out that we bear comparison with teams thought this season to have the drop on us, teams like Southampton, Spurs and liverpool.

That's what's being argued here, not that we will get top 6 by right. But it's undeniable that if the form continues in the above manner this season then we'll be knocking on the door of the European places very loudly....and if we can make key signings and keep players, then we might be in for better than 6th/7th

we'd best just take it one game at a time for the next 10, 15. then see where we are in the grand scheme of things.
If I / we try as best we can to take the emotion out of it, the only way, or so it seems to me, is one game at a time. Whether you're on a 6 game winning streak or a 6 game losing streak.

We've all (mostly) done one of 2 things or both

1) these next 6 games should be 18Pts nailed on...then we'll be 2nd or whatever
2) these next 6 games, I can't see us getting 3Pts...we'll be looking relegation in the face

So one game at a time it is then

But the emotional kneejerk roller coaster is much more fun.

Edit:

Then I go to the main page and see a thread called

'Our next 8 games'

We have... and how often does what we've predicted happen? Let's just look forward to the next game and hope we can carry our confidence into it.

Possession tripe: half the possession of the ball away from home got us a 3-0 win. It's not possession, it's what you do with it. You have to have possession to do anything in a game.

And this really is the nail on the head. Glad someone finally told Roberto

Plus ive just noticed that daves cut off point of jan 1st roughly coincides with when we knocked the slow arse tippy tappy passing between defenders on the head and started playing more directly.

So we did exactly what most people said we would if we done that : won more points.

Not interested in posting in the Roberto Martinez thread these days mate? :coffee:

How refreshing was it on Saturday to watch us playing a direct, fast-paced counter attacking style and looking dangerous every time we went forward, while at the same time looking comfortable at the back? I hope he's learned now that you don't have to have 65% possession to control a game. We should play exactly the same again City, who no doubt will come straight at us from the off

Yep good point.

Same as yesterday - played quicker, direct, got the rewards for it.

You can count on one... well, finger really, how many games we've won due to tippy tappy in the last 12 months.

That's not backed up with the evidence. I posted this toward the end of last season from the data on the basis of season results up to the Stoke game in March.

We actually won more when we persevered with a game that built patently from the back and midfield rather than in games where we went front to back a bit quicker.

Another example of facts trumping perception.

Unless he's a memory like his namesake bob the goldfish.
I would like to think Roberto's on probation - reviewed weekly - with a restraining order not to approach his ex partners Ms Pass, Pass, Pass, or Ms Philosophy.

edit; Or Ms Phenomenal

Not really mate - the games were we passed the ball less was simply because we didn't play tippy tappy well, which was often. It wasn't because we went direct.
