The facts dont support the notion we've slipped away from the top 6

20 games = a 'snapshot'?

Have another go.

You must be alone in not ever having heard football people using a calendar year form guide to make a counterpoint to season long stats.

It's an orthodox marker to judge where a team is at. In this instance it puts Everton not too far away from the points tallies our peer group have amassed and another way of assessing exactly where we are as a team and how much ground we have to take back.

I'm sorry if the conclusions that must be drawn from that comparison point in a positive direction for us and doesn't emphasise the doom and gloom you and your cohorts would like to be the order of the day.
No love, you see plenty of people use the calendar year as a yardstick. But you haven't have you?

However, most would use it as the simple fact that it is, in this case we'd be 8th.

You've chosen to add your own nonsensical spin to it and suggest that it makes the gap back to where we were before Martinez took over was 'bridgeable' based on this meaningless stat.

Up the Gers

Haven't I?

I always thought the year started on January 1st. It's changed?

Well I cant magic up another four months. We are where we are in this calendar year and it's a legitimate marker from the turn of the year to where we are right now...it's not exactly a couple of weeks back, like is it?

The clue is in the name : calender YEAR. Thus when people in football talk about a calender YEAR they are referring to the 365 days between 1 date in 1 year to the same date in the next yer.

Otherwise it would be the calender 8 months and 15 days as per your example.

Of course you wouldn't want to include the other 4 months back to August 15th 2014 would you.

Of course not, that wouldn't be a calendar year then would it?

Dear me.

So just to clarify: you and your mate here are not having it that 20 games - starting from a universally recognised chronological starting point - is enough of a period to judge form on?

OK.

Kopites come up with alternative league tables that portray their position as being better than the one that matters

Just saying........
Well, I think I've given you and your friend enough explanation for this and it's obvious you don't wish to accept the more than reasonable form guide offered which suggest a lot more hope for our team in relation to where they are with our rivals.

I'll leave it at that, other than to request you allow this thread to develop without you if you have no other contribution to make. You've made your feelings known. Let's just see what others think.

Let me check.

*gets calender*

Yep, i was right. August 15th 2014 to August 14th 2015 is a calender year.

January 1st 2015 to August 15th 2015 isn't. Ive counted the days and everything.

And lastly, don't worry Dave, unfortunatly i'm sure your "friend" will be back soon.
