The facts dont support the notion we've slipped away from the top 6

I look forward to our 7th place since New Years Day (excluding Leicester as their stats don't count) trophy, being paraded next Sunday.

Glad to see your ambition is so high Dave, such a refreshing change from the stale Moyes years of dumbing down of expectations. Well done mate..

Sorry mate but i've just heard that we've had to cancel the open top bus parade through the city because liverpool have booked it for their parade of the "most wins over Stoke since July" trophy.

If we keep playing football instead of that possession tripe that was served up last season then we are more than capable of challenging the top six

Of course.

But if we play some of the god awful crap we played just before Dave's wonderful cut off point we'll be nowhere near the top 6.

Again.

Kone is leading us in to a new era of success, and you don't seem to be handling it very well. You even an Everton fan bro?

yesterdays result not withstanding ( roll on 36 more + cup games )

Has anybody mentioned whistling in the dark / clutching at straws yet.

4th and 5th have happened, but at this one swallow moment, which is were we are. I think you may be slightly over stating your case.

lets wait and see.

I can give dancing in the dark a go - love a bit of the boss me! Sadly I groove like a man with a piano on his back trying to do front crawl.
Hows our form since the vernal equinox? pancake tuesday? or lets weigh up the opening 19 fixtures in RMs previous seasons. Because there was a time at Wigan where no one took more points than them in the final 14 games or something similar. This seems like trying to pratfall a few into making outlandish statements only to get panned with some miscelaneous fact like that.

Second half of 14/15 was grim. A few turgid one nil wins couldn't paper over some awful performances. Southampton away was completely different from them. We need to build a good start then look for some consistency before we can start saying we're back up with the top 6. Remember when Noyes got pilloried for being best of the rest and not challenging the top 4? Have we dropped our expectations again after one bad season? There's 7 decent teams in this league. Coming top 7 shouldn't be hard, 7th should be minimum. If we want to be ambitious though then fourth has to be the target.

Think top 4 is out the picture these days, we should deffo be challenging for top 5-6 place though with spurs and Liverpool, our first 11 are easily a match, just worry about quality in squad depth hopefully these 3 signings should sort that put

Possession tripe: half the possession of the ball away from home got us a 3-0 win. It's not possession, it's what you do with it. You have to have possession to do anything in a game.

who would you say are the current top six of english football? not literally (points wise) in the league, but using your logic of a particular top six "peer group", bear in mind you can only pick six, if you mention any more than six teams you'll very likely be thread-banned...

No, not top six. But just outside that...and only just outside that. Who else could you say is better than us than Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs?

Top 7 with a bridgeable gap to 5th.
What a load of tripe.

You can't finish the season and say we finished 11th but the gap to 8th was bridgeable lol

You've chosen to use a calendar year snapshot of the points tally, in which were 8th. The gap is the gap, same as it is in May.

20 games = a 'snapshot'?

Have another go.

You must be alone in not ever having heard football people using a calendar year form guide to make a counterpoint to season long stats.

It's an orthodox marker to judge where a team is at. In this instance it puts Everton not too far away from the points tallies our peer group have amassed and another way of assessing exactly where we are as a team and how much ground we have to take back.

I'm sorry if the conclusions that must be drawn from that comparison point in a positive direction for us and doesn't emphasise the doom and gloom you and your cohorts would like to be the order of the day.
