The FA Cup- are we going for it this year?

Moyes has actually said that he's gonna go for it, I just read it somewhere about half an hour ago. ToxtethBlue will provide the link in a minute.

Since my good friend seems to have let me down on this one, here's what I was talking about;

"Despite a lengthening injury list, Moyes is likely to field his strongest available side against Macclesfield in the FA Cup.
He is anxious to avoid another early exit from a competition the Merseyside club last won in 1995, Everton's last major trophy success.
Twelve months ago they were embarrassed 1-0 at home by Oldham, who are two leagues below Everton, while Moyes also suffered third round humiliation at the hands of lowly Shrewsbury in 2003.
Although securing a European spot remains Everton's main priority this season, Moyes wants his players to enjoy a successful FA Cup run.
Seventy-six places separate Everton and Macclesfield on the league ladder, but Moyes is taking nothing for granted.
"I was very disappointed we went out of the competition at an early stage last season. I don't want that to happen again," said Moyes."

I wouldn't rest anyone Hb, we are already out of the UEFA and league cups so it's not like we've got loads of fixtures together like last year. Keep the momentum going in the team. Maybe give Gosling a game as he's been playing well and bring Baxter on for the last 25-30 mins
That's a very important point imo, whereas a lot of our rivals will suffer from a bit of fixture congestion. Hoping Villa can get through another couple of rounds (only to lose cruelly on penalties, morally deflating them). I said a couple of months ago that are early exits in the cups could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Think we'll do well in the cup and without harming our league form

No rest for anyone this year, we need to push for everything. The squad is on the thin side and we can't rest too many players at once, but there is no reason why we shouldn't push for the double here. FA Cup and ..... err 4th. I'm feeling good about this year. We can make something of this season after our slow start.

* reaches for tin hat.

I'm torn because I'd like to see us do the best we can but we need to give a few players a rest. Hence potential playing time for Gosling, VDM, etc....

I really wonder if he'd get a game if it was indeed the Simod cup, the Watney's Cup, the Anglo Scottish cup or any of the other short lived mantle fillers.

Imagine if a nasty strain of influenza swept through the footballing community. By chance, every team is left with eleven fit players. The FA decide that since each club is able to field a team, all games will commence as normal. It just so happens that VDM is one of our eleven. Would Moyes send out 10 men with VDM left on the bench?

Yes...

We have no choice we need a cup run for financial reasons, its not a choice between league and cup we need to do well in both or there will deffo be know money this summer:unsure:

It depends how much money is on offer for each round played. Remember as well that we get something like £500k extra for each position gained in the PL. If we lost two places in the league because of a good cup run, and therefore UEFA football, that could also be very costly.

I can't see a good run in the fa cup doing our league position any harm, this time last year we where still in all the compititions.
A good cup run can only be good(y)
