Not sure what angle Dave is working here but he’s definitely working something

GOT is a terrible chant tbh. About half the crowd drop out before its halfway thru. It doesn't have a great tune or a single rhyme.
Its a bad version of a show tune and belongs to Celtic.
I just can't figure it out.....

What's this thread got to do with a Villa fan exactly? If that is what you are.
I wasn't going to bother replying to you but I will explain something to you that is clearly going way over your head.

Football is part of the history of England and is very much part of English culture. Over time it has helped to build huge rivalries and has helped people and communities get through some very difficult times. I will readily admit I don't know too much about the culture associated with Everton but Dave's thread appealed to me as the fundamental point he made was about the history of a song associated with the club and the pride he has in that song. This is one of the things that helped to build the culture of Everton Football Club. It is often mentioned here that Everton is a big club and a proper club and Dave has reminded me on more than one occasion that Villa was relegated 3 times and Everton has never been relegated. Having songs like GOT is part of what makes Everton a big club. Without its history, Everton is nothing more than any other club. I was interested in why he wanted GOT to be sung at a different time and interested in the history behind GOT.

Maybe a blend of differnet songs could provide a new standard but with a nod to the past, also. Something like:

And it's a Grand Old Team to play for,
And it's a Grand Old team to support,
So get your coat on and get moving,
Cos we don’t know the meaning of losing,

And if you know your history,
It's enough to make your heart go Woooooooo
Cos we’re hot on the trail,
And there’s no way we’re gonna fail,

And we'll fight fight fight
With all our might
For Patterson in the Royal Blue Jersey

Obviously it'll need a bit of work but I for one and am all for it.

If you can make it rhyme to The Sash My Father Wore, you could be onto a winner.
