Former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell has hit a bum note with residents of Trowbridge after a song ridiculed their "terrible" town.

Cornwell, 59, in a track titled "Please don't put me on a slow boat to Trowbridge", promises to "mend my ways" rather than endure a visit.

They were an intimidating group. Their ace card was that they never felt the need to fit in with some punk sensibility, and journals like NME and Sounds had little they could undermine them with.

On a side not, Burnel's Euroman Cometh was a fine solo effort.

Didn't they actually write a song for one of his cooking series. Was it something like Far Flung Floyd?

Great combination by the way. Stranglers one of my favourite groups of the 80s and Floyd deffo my favourite TV chef of all time
