Absolutely devastated to hear about dave Greenfield. Seen the stranglers countless times and they never let me down. I guess this will be the end of the road for them now. RIP dave you played a massive part in my life

A wizard of the keyboards, I absolutely loved the stranglers in their pomp with the original classic lineup. He featured the harpsichord s lot which was novel for the time.
The music press hated them (or rather were petrified of them). J-JB and his martial arts and the Finchley Boys. Lol.

Very true dave. JJ was a genuine nutter who had run ins with the press and peer bands. I think hugh cornwell left in the end cos JJ was so unhinged

When Keith Floyd was alive, (obvs), and had a restaurant in Bristol, JJB and Hugh Cornwell used to gig there. (Sounds mad that, but its true).

Its why Floyd used Peaches on his TV programmes.

The music press hated them cos they were far brighter than the hacks. Both JJB and Cornwell had B Eds in some weird field of biology or sommet. Both black belts in various martial arts too.

And as my memory has focused on them, one of Cornwells songs was inspired by the one way system in Trowbridge. Typically, cant remember which song.

edit. Thanks Google.

Former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell has hit a bum note with residents of Trowbridge after a song ridiculed their "terrible" town.

Cornwell, 59, in a track titled "Please don't put me on a slow boat to Trowbridge", promises to "mend my ways" rather than endure a visit.

Hard to think what any music scene would be like without Kraftwerk, they broke as many boundaries as the Beatles.
Kraftwerk pretty much created an entire genre of music and in the early days they were making their own instruments/synths to get the sounds they wanted. They went to a level The Beatles (as good as they were) could only dream about imo.

The tech available to them was far more than the Beatles had at their disposal......cracking band tho'.. ;)

It really was'nt in the early days mate, they made a lot of their synths and other electronic items because none existed on the market at the time, they started out in the mid 60's don't forget
