I thought catastrophic but it's probably local, as you say.I first started hearing it in the late sixties when I was among a group of apprentice lads at college for 12 months. If someone finished a task, as a group we judged it either as an ace piece of work, or "cat" if it didn't come up to expectations. I've used it ever since and my immediate circle of work colleagues and friends know what it means and utter it also. I'm thinking it's a Merseyside thing.
